In general, is there any harm is switching between brands of gasoline? will it hurt anythng if one day I fuel up at BP..the maybe at half a tank..fill up at Shell...etc...?

strombony,

Once before it was ill advised but now a days the way gas is made I now see no real issue in doing it. Sometimes in the real world it just can't help but to do it.

If you expecting any gain in performance/MPG then don't.

No, it's not that..it's that I only use BP fuels, but sometimes when I'm in a hurry, I just run up to Shell as it's on my way to work...

I have never been loyal to a specific type of gas, since the core product is the same thing regardless of the station.

I know some companies have proprietary additives, but when you just get 87 octane, what's the big deal?

I think its GOOD to switch among fuel brands. Different detergent/solvent packages clean away what others leave. Using just one detergent combo means that anything it doesn't clean well may tend to build up.

Seems to me, depending on the additives or something in the gasoline, you can vary slightly in overall mileage/tank, but I've had no other ill effects of using different brands. Aside from once getting 91 octane (in a car that required it) and having it ping (assuming the gas was not actually 91, but less)

What he said.

no issues.

Some have seen evidence that one brand's additive is good for some things, and then it doesn't get all types of deposits, while leaving some slight residues of its own. Changing additives optimizes your chance to get everything and prevent add-specific deposits from forming.

I try to stay with these brands (top tier gasolines):
QuikTrip
Chevron
Texaco
MFA Oil Co.
Conoco
Phillips 66
76
Entec Stations
Shell
The Somerset Refinery, Inc.
Kwik Trip / Kwik Star
Aloha Petroleum
Tri-Par Oil Co.
Turkey Hill Minit Markets
Mileage Stations
Chevron Canada
Shell Canada
Petro-Canada
Sunoco Canada

strombony,

If that's what your doing then that's fine :-). I too do this practically every week myself cuz I fill up at Cosco gas station and then in the middle of the week buy a different brand like Conoco/Phillips 76 to top it off.

Gas is so high here in California!!!! The Shell in my area is NOW $3.90/gallon/regular!!!! What a rip-off!!! Someone needs to do something about corporate greed. Again.
