AAP Battery

I bought an EverStart Maxx for my '97 Dakota when I had it, from Walmart. It was a JCI battery and did great in that truck. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

In fact, I didn't. I have an EverStart in our '05 Acura. I don't think they had the Maxx in this size (which is a 24 as I recall). Also JCI. Good stuff, good price, good warranty.

Presently JC "seems" to be putting round plain-as-day date codes on their batteries. IE, 11/10. Advance and Walmart both show these and have the hexagonal "pry me out" vent caps.

Although fond of the price, Advance's econo battery in the typical GM group size seems flaky/ wonky to me, and I've seen a couple examples. The 2 year warranty midgrade ones are great.

Also...and it may not be the same today as it was years ago, but I used to work at Advance and we exchanged a ton of the Silver line of batteries. Saw very few returns of the Gold. Today, I think they even have Platinum or something like that. It could be that we sold a disproportionately large number of Silvers, so that's most of what came back in, but I'd still be leery on it. Especially given the shorter warranty period.

In my local AAP stores, the GOLD has replaced the PLATINUM

When did this change occur? I was always under the impression that Autozone was JC also.

My Interstate distributor stated the same as Donald....higher CCA in the same footprint can result in thinner, weaker, shorter life plates, especially in hotter climates. Can anyone confirm this?

Finally, to the OP, don't forget about the online Advanced Auto discount codes. You could have save $40 dollars.

Enjoy your battery!

well is there any way of taking advantage of the code after the sale ? Id hate to "return" the battery then purchase it again just to use the code.. wonder if a manager would be will ing to help

No offense to anyone here, just trying to help out the OP, but I had an AAP Silver battery in my truck and it just barely lasted two years. I replaced it with a Duralast Gold, this will be my third summer with it and it is still doing great. My Duralast is a JCI battery. I read online that Autozone has it in their agreement with JCI that the Duralast branded batteries are to be built better and to tougher specs than the batteries that JCI supplies to other retailers. I have no idea if that is really true but the Duralast Gold is a great battery.

I put a Duralast Gold in my gf's Honda Accord the same week I replaced my own battery, so far both are holding up very well to the Florida heat and humidity. We have had a few cold nights this "winter" with night time temps down in the 30's, both vehicles started right up in the morning, with no trouble at all. My truck sometimes sits for 3 or 4 days without being started or driven, but it always fires right up when I hit the ignition switch.

I too read that JCI made the AZ battery, but they DO look different-- the tops... the way they are shaped and glued, look different to me.

come replacement time, I hope to mod the jeep so I can fit something a bit beefier in there. Once shoe-horned a marine combo deep-cycle/starter battery in a ram van for my neighbors. it died often in the winter, and his wife would abandon it. he went through many starter batteries after the blinkers would kill it over 8 hours. After installing the larger batt.... she could leave it, and 8 hours later it'd be sitting there with the blinkers going as bright as daylight, he'd jump in, start it, and drive it home (she just couldn't handle the carbuerated engine in the winter). no more replaced batteries!

Couple weeks ago, I let a Toyota dealer replace the battery in my Camry. Why? Because the installation was free and the price was similar. Of course I told them that I already checked out the charging system myself and I did not want to get my hand dirty. They got my drift and there were "no surprises" waiting for me after the repair.

On the other hand, I replaced the battery on the Odyssey. I made my son do the heavy lifting though! It was a Costco one. This would be 3rd premature failure of Costco batteries. Fortunately, even after more than 3 years, I got significant pro-rated money back from Costco. That was a nice surprise as I was not expecting much.

Yes, you are correct! I misspoke. I did mention it correctly earlier in the post and then later in the post, incorrectly as you have shown. Thanks for the correction
