A situation: forced idle?

I have a peculiar predicament. Personally, I am a proponent of the "idle for 30 seconds and drive easy" method. However, because of where I am located, I'm forced to idle my engine to warm up.

I live in a development that sits atop a very large hill. In order to leave my development, I must drive down a moderately steep long road, I'd say about a 20° incline, for several minutes at the 35mph limit. Since my Honda cuts the fuel injectors while traveling downhill in gear, I would be spending the first few minutes of driving without any combustion occuring!

I would suggest to find a way to confirm that this function is part of the ECU programming when your engine is cold.

I've had a couple of cars (both German) which did NOT suspend injector operation when cold operation mode. One had a real time consumption gauge which indicates infinity when the injectors are shut down (confirming when they are on and off). The other had modified exhaust that burbled when the injectors were on and didn't when they were off.

I'm not sure how to tell you to check your Honda, however.

Craig.
