This morning I noticed a large oil poodle under her Golf. It looks like a cam shaft seal liderally blew out. It's a real mess!!!

Wife says she didn't Notice a thing last time she drove the car. The narrow angel VR6 is an interfearance engine and I don't want to mess with taking the Timing Chain off myself. It will be expensive just to change the lousy seal. I'm taking her in on Monday morning

My mechanic said he'll do it for $350. The Golf has 196 thousand miles on it. If that car was a gas guzzler I'd cash it for another clunker!!

How many miles ?

I'd clean things up and do a bit of investigation. The timing chain on these engines is between the engine and transmission as opposed to being on the accessory belt drive end. It's not too common to get a leak from the camshaft since it's all internally lubricated.

Poke around a bit before turning someone loose on it. It might be a simple o-ring at the oil filter housing where the oil cooler mounts.

What year is the car?

Hope you get it fixed without it costing too much. These things always seem to spiral out of control, cost wise.

I knew it was just a matter of time before this one started to spiral down into the quagmire of filth. . . Actually, I was tempted to take it there myself, but I didn't want to end up in Helen' woodshed. As tantalizing as it may be, be good everyone -- 'cuz you don't want to meet Helen in the shed!

As long as the case can be resolved in a mechanic's garage and not in divorce court, I think all of the parties involved will be OK.

Would not the CORRECT title of this thread be?

A SEAL failed WHILE my wife was driving.

Making any statement that could blame my wife for something that happened to her car is NOT a wise thing to do in my house.

+1

It's never wise to blame someone for something beyond their control.

My experience has proven that regardless of fault ..I will get the blame.
