My wife saw this today. That's a bedroom window. In case anyone wonders yes the East side of my house is below ground level. House is built on a slope.

Gopher snake.
Harmless to humans but detrimental to rodents.
They also eat rattlesnakes. If you have gopher snakes or king snakes( we have both) you most likely will not have rattlesnakes.

Nice. We had rat snakes around our home, kept the copperheads away and attended to the mouse and chipmunk population. I tried to adopt a live and let live attitude with them. Still a bit unnerving to walk around the corner of my house in the backyard and come up on a 6 foot black beauty taking a late morning sunbath.

What a cutie. I wish we had more safety snakes in Australia. Most of the ones in my area are in the top 10 or 20 most venemous in the world.
The one drawback
Everything in Aus will bloody kill you. Even the trees. Watched an interesting you tube on how unpopulated the north section in the tropics is.
This tree? I’ve never been that far north but have heard stories.
Yes............worse way worse than stinging nettle.....lasts for months.........

Gopher Snake. It's a harmless Colubrid with a glorious hisssss as an effective deterrent. When you're a noodle with a head, you're easy prey for many other critters.
We're in South Carolina and my wife is petrified of snakes. Only good snake is a dead one according to her. She would be rendered catatonic by this......
Wow, we we're in the area and it wasn't mentioned... We did quite a bit of mountain biking and for snakes, the locals just said to stay out of the long grass and avoid any odd looking "stick" on the trail!

Went to Darwin once, way up north.
They have these just off the beaches;
box jellyfish
salty
and these on the roads
water buffalo
Otherwise it's a pretty nice place.

Around lte fathers place there are some rat, yellow ringnecks
I moved few away from inside garage to field near neighbors pond. Harmless and cool friends of Mother Nature I think. No rats or bats etc in dads garage
