I've decided that I am going to change the oil in my Cobalt.

A quick history: The Balt ran on QS from the first oil change until 35k. When I bought it from a family member, I switched it over to Mobil 1.

Unlike my other car, in which I noticed a big difference, there was no change to the Balt. Even the operating temp stays the same.

And being a BITOG member, I just can't have that.

So I picked up a case of PP (loving that 3.99 a qt), and I plan on using it at my next OC.

Now knowing that PP will do a bit more "cleaning", is there anything that i should look out for?

I'm hoping to see the same change that I saw with Mobil 1 and the other car.....

Were you expecting the operating temp to change?

I have to ask what "changes" you saw in your other car.

PP, is a good oil BTW. I would expect to change the oil, drive the car and know that there is a quality oil in the sump.

Yep, The Op temp in the other car stays cooler, even in heavy traffic. The needle just refuses to move.

"Other" car changes: Peppier, cooler op temp, car still runs like new, engine doesn't stress if I work it harder...you can just tell it just does better overall.

I know that there is nothing wrong with it...it works great in the other car....

I just wanted to see if it will do better.....if not, it will go right back to Mobil 1 again....

I don't think you'll notice things like that in your Cobalt but PP is a very good oil, so is M1 and 3.99/qt is a good price. I personally like PP as well for my cars.

I thought that was good....

In my '00 Cavalier (practically same as a cobalt) I've used:
1.Valvoline
2.V. Durablend
3.Castrol
4.Mobil Clean 5000
5.Havoline
6.Pennzoil
7.Back to Valvoline

Throw in a few times (including now) store brands like Murray's and OReilly, and I've never had any sort of difference in regards to "performance". I'm hoping to get the old geezer tuned up someday since it's at 110 thousand on the clock and had 5 miles on it when I got it in November '99. The weight of all the oils is 5w30, by the way.

That's actually pretty good...

Our 03 Cav started on Valvoline the first few oil changes, moved to Mobil 5000 for the next one, I changed it to Mobil 1 at 12k, and never looked back (has 53k now) I love the stuff, it still runs like the day I bought it (or at least close..)

THe Cobalt got a late start (at almost 40k), so we will see what I can do....
