+1 ... Ecore center tube design and construction is a lot better today than when they first came out many years ago. They have learned how to make them better with time.

That is the truth! Even the "best of the best" Fram XG8765 cartridge filter for my Cad has the plastic core (as do the Tough Guard and STP versions of that filter). Im currently using the ACDelco version (PF2129G) which has the metal core. I dont think it really matters whether the core is plastic or steel. They both seem to hold up well.

Same basic filter as the Purolator ONE ... just made under the Bosch name brand. $5 is a good price for it.

Don't see them going away unless an engine goes to cartridge instead - just look at all the non metallic material on engines and cooling systems these days
I find the build quality in my AC Delco filters to be good - and very consistent

Just got my Bosch filter.
It is indeed a purolator 1
Even the stamping is exact same numbers and location.
Only difference seal is black instead of Orland and the can color of coarse.
5 bucks on amazon

Fram Ultra filters are better constructed than the Mobil 1 oil filters and contains full synthetic media. For almost the same price as the AC Delco and Mobil 1 filters, you can get a better filter with the Ultra. It's essentially a no brainer. Go Ultra and never think about it again!

I just looked at the ultra cut open in a video.
I agree it looks like a very well made filter

The mega thin cans are the only thing that keeps me from using Fram. If I can crush the can in my bare hands, then it's too thin imo. The endcap design doesn't bother me at all.

My opinion, stick with oem. Can't go wrong with those.

Ultras and GMs are not always a good marriage. But both of my GMs absolutely love the Mobil 1 / K&N / STP XL Champs. Wix too.

Check closely.... with both ears, for cold startup clatter. Reported here that Fram Techs were changing the bypass pressure settings....etc.... on select, troubled GM engines. But it was an ongoing slow process.

I have cold start up chatter for about 30 seconds running ac delco classic filter.
That is another reason I'm searching for a new filter hoping to fix this problem
When I stay cold start I mean the engine not being worn it can be 90 degrees outside and it still ticks

Ok I bought a few filters.
2 pur 1 different model #s and a bosch.
Seams like the holes in the center core of the bosch are not fully open.
No more mail oil filters for me.
I want to inspect before I buy.
At least the ac delco hole larger hole openings for oil flow.
I'm gona cut the bosch open one day for closer inspection

3700 miles on the current filter The oil is still Clean (hybrid vehicle)

Mobil1 filter and oil

mobil1 filters are free.. with the oil purchase (after online rebate) (17$ rebate)

So the oil and filter is about $16 after online rebate not too bad

Oil cost $22.88
filter cost $9.99
online rebate $17
= $15.87 for 5qt & filter

Those louvers look very good - nothing to worry about. I've seen much worse than those.

I was worried about nothing this filter flows very good and the media was very well glued together it was very difficult to get apart

Which GM engine doesn't work well with the Ultra filter. I have 3 new GM vehicles and never had any issues with the Ultras. So far, the best oil filters I have ever used.
