Once the bearings are worn they expand during hot weather from engine heat and allow the armature to sag down and drag on the field windings. If the truck is missing its heat shield it will make it worse. For some models they make an after market heat shield. Ford's 460 engine is probably the most affected.
I have a similar issue on my '99 F-150. I took the starter apart and refreshed it, it was in much better shape than a Tacoma starter with similar mileage that I refreshed recently, but no improvement. On a cold start, warm start, or a hot start within 1 minute of shutdown it starts fine. On a hot start more than a minute from shutdown it has to be turned over 6-10 seconds before it fires. Nothing to do with your issue, but on mine I currently suspect a loss of fuel pressure--a leaky injector or fuel pump check valve.
