A colleague of mine wants to replace his cap, rotor, and spark plug wires on his '98 Nissan Frontier XE 4 cyl. He's looking for OEM or better quality at a reasonable price. I'm guessing the dealer will have the right parts, but way overpriced. Anybody have any recommendations for brand, type, and where to buy these items? All three parts don't necessarily have to be all the same brand or sold at the same place. Thanks in advance for any responses.

If your looking for quality wires you should consider Borg Warner "SuperMag" 7mm wires from Pep Boys. They are cheaper than the factory wires and have very little resistence. I bought a pair for my wife's Integra. The factory wires measured 3800 ohms....and the Supermag measured only 290 ohms. I was shocked how bad the factory wires were. I also changed the cap & rotor (Borg Warner)...and installed new NGK spark plugs. The wires are $45

Keep in mind that spiral metal wires, though they offer very little steady DC resistance, offer as much high frequency AC resistance, which is more appropriate to the way they behave in an ignition system, as carbon core wires. Do some research on inductors for more info. The main thing is that they don't degrade like carbon core wires.

BTW, "SuperMag" refers to the spiral metal core in the BorgWarner Select wires.

I have a 98 Frontier and I bought OEM stuff online here Nissan OEM link and saved a bunch. I got everything for less than the dealer wanted just for the wires.

The wires are quite nice, you'll have a hard time beating them for the money.

I bought a set of lifetime wires at Discount auto back in about 99. They are holding up great. They are gray and heavy duty. Much better than the factory wires that came with my 94 Nissan 2.4 XE King Cab. The best truck ever made.PS the Distriburtor is a Hatichi they made two that year in 94.

Thanks for all the replies. Just to have more options, anyone have any comments on Prestolite or Bosch Premium ignition wire sets?

That link doesn't work, other than the homepage, the three times I'ved tried it. Have you bought anything there recently?

From what I heard, the OEM wires is the best quality-wise in various Nissan engines. NGK is good except they don't fit as well as the OEM wires (connections on the cap).

From what I've read on the Prestolite website, they make OEM wire sets for Nissan.

Not sure about your engine (KA24DE), I know Sumitomo make some of the OEM wires for G20, SE-R, Sentra SE (SR20DE). 427Z06, do you have a link to the Prestolite website?

I used Accel Thundersport wires from the 240SX.

More or less the same engine as the Frontier.

You'll need to trim a little bit of rubber off the bottom of the boot.
And a couple wires are a few inches too long, but they fit.
You could shorten them if you like.

Other than that they fit perfect.
And the resistance is only 150ohms/foot.

Here's a pic of the rubber bead you need to cut off.
The left one is modified, middle is stock, right is the unmodified one.

427Z06,
Yeah, about 1 month ago. You have to click on the big Nissan emblem on the homepage.

The prices are good but they aren't real speedy in shipping the stuff. Best to plan ahead with these guys.

All the stuff I've recieved from them came from Academy Nissan in Ft. Collins Colorado.

It's working now, it didn't the last few times I tried it.

Which wire set is better?

CABLE SET,Frontier,2.4L, Sumitomo 98-99 $45.52

CABLE SET,Frontier,2.4L, Yazaki 98-99 $45.52

Those Accel wires are only $42 + $9 shipping from Summit Racing or Jeg's.

The part number is 7940B.

Thanks, gtx510, the person in question is an engineer from Bangladesh. (Doesn't quite have that Yankee ingenuity

) I think I'm better off recommending something that fits as well as the stock wires.

By the way, thanks to all of you for responding. You've all been a great help. I hope I can repay the advice in the future.
