Well! I got everything apart...now BIG problem...the coolant elbow.theirs only one, that went into intake. It's fine. The back of the tensioner coolant housing, thie r is no elbow!it was a small half thumb sized aluminum pipe, has gasket on it,it's a small straight thing, not elbowed,it broke.I got one worth gadke T out of the block, but the other piece is wedged in the tensioner.
I put a new elbow in,see how it would look..it won't fit into tensioner housing, the other empty and points up. What do I do now? It appears,my tensioner was made too fu T a small straight pipe into the block...

I also discoveted, thie r was no thermostat! I looked all over thie r was no thermostat.I have a new one. What do I do about the tensioner coolant housing?

Thermostat should be where upper radiator hose meets the lower intake.

Tensioner: remove serpentine belt, remove alternator, remove 4 bolts (one top and 3 side), pull tensioner/bracket off to the side and set aside. Original plastic elbows will almost certainly break when you do that but you're going to replace them anyway.

No...its A Small Half Thumb Or smaller Metal Piece With A O Ring Gasket, that Was Oart Of The Tensioner Housing, that Went Into Engine.its Not An Elbow At All,its Part Of The Housing Itself. Ontop Of It,thier 2 Large Pipe Opening, the tensioer.the FIirst One,if You FOollow IT Down Too ITs base, Thats Whete IT is.i Broke IT Acvidentaly, orying IT off Carefuly, with A large SCrewdriver. Its CLearly, broken ALuminum.

Pics or it didn't happen.

I'm sorry..my tablet has this annoying spellcheck, and I type fast...i Am Sorry. I Have No Idea How It Happoened. I Used A Large Screwdriver And Finadled towtds Me, Rocked The Tensioner Back N Forth Few Minutes Till It Popped Out. Its Clearly Aluminum. Regardless I Walked 25 Minutes My Local Autozone, bought A New tensioner Coolant Elbow Bracket.took Old ONe with me,make Sure EVerything Is Too THe letter. $80 After TAx.
Its DARk out Now,have Some Streetlight, but not Near Me. Gunna Resume Early Am, Boltung It On,applying black Rtv Too Intake Sliders, Bolt That Up,ac Delco 3/8 torque Adapter, New. Gasket For Upper Plenium, Torque Too Specs, Rebolt Alternator, and Hope I Torqued Em Good. 24 Hours Too Let the Rtv Dry.

I used Berrymann spray, when cleaning the manifold, where the gaskets go. And a razor blade. Looks pretty good! The original gasket, was plastic, but not ruind, but some etc looks like it might have failed driver side, where lower intake meets engine body, the corners. Theirs a descent amount of cracked carbon built up in the lower intake plenium, exhaus r holes but not that bad. Tried using a screwdriver, stuff wouldn't come oiff, the cakes carbon
I'm in awe! When I removed the thermostat housing, their was no thermostat! I drove this car over 100 miles already, and no temp light came on. I'm trying too figure out, what the owner was doing!
Could this be,why as the point title says? Cat converter inefficiency? Simply a missing thermostat?

If this isn't engineer20 doing all of this I will eat my hat... Or his twin brother shortbusengineer... Unless there is a real resolution to this whole circumstance I am quite sure that's who is behind this hoot nanny.

I thought about it but then I saw the join date, 12 years ago I think he was still a kid.

Maybe his long lost father?

Spell check is not working Ziggy. All it's doing is putting a capital letter on the beginning of every word. There's still a lot of misspelled words. But I'm beginning to develop my own Ziggy translation software in my brain. I think I'll name it "Ziggyware."

Since the join date was so long ago I thought maybe his account was hacked or something. Went back to his first post on here to see if they sound similar. Below is the post and sounds like the same person posting today.

I'm still trying to figure what Ziggy said about the chain tensioner assembly. Something about it missing one of the coolant elbows or something. I'm trying to figure out how the engine was able to run up until this point with one of the elbows missing.

For those of you who don't know 3800's, the engine coolant is routed THROUGH the chain tensioner.

The chain tensioner also doubles as a pedestal for the alternator.

Here is the chain tensioner show upside down:
