Slow down and read Ziggy. I said "Socket size 3/8."

Lol the numbers!! I took it as 3/8 drive(ratchet head socket size), 1/1/4 size sockey, and the 5/16x18 there me off.that's the thread size,I belive.
So! I'm order too remove the 12 intake bolkts, and put them back in, I am going too use, a 3/8 socket on a 1 1/4 ratchet.correct?

You'll probably need a 3/8 drive ratchet to break them loose. You know about the two bolts down inside the intake ports right ? There's two: One is right rear and the other is left front.

Yes,I saw quite a few vids,in this 3800 engine.they all mentioned and worked,on the 4? Bolts. One guy, used a fan type torque wrench..interesting.I have one,but know its not as good as a digital.
So 3/8 drive ratchet, I have one.I have many tools..I'm an average do it yourself drivewa y car fixer. The actual socket I'm going too need,is 3/8? Or a mm socket?

All the lower intake manifold bolts that thread into the cylinder heads are SAE.

If by chance you need to chase the threads in the cylinder heads to clean them out, the tap size is 5/16"-18.

All the upper intake manifold bolts are metric.

Oh I see! No,I'm planning on just as in all the like 5 YouTube vids on this procedure, for this engine,is just remove them re install.so, the lower intake head, those 12 volts are 3/8 socket.,correct? Stubby, not long socket?

All 12 lower intake manifold bolts take a shallow 3/8 inch socket yes.

You'll need deep sockets for the upper intake manifold because some of them are hex studs.

Got it! I have adapters few 1 1/4 rachets, 3/8 drive, and a few small 1 quarter size rachets. Need too see if I have a short 3/8 socket, know I have a few long ones.

I should mention something Ziggy: After you get the upper intake manifold off, there's going to be a Purge Solenoid Bracket bolted to the front cylinder head. You're probably going to want to unbolt that bracket so that you have room to get to the lower intake manifold bolts. But here's the kicker: Don't forget to bolt it back on BEFORE you install the upper intake manifold. If you forget, you'll have to pull the upper intake manifold back off again because there's no way to get to the bracket bolt with the upper intake manifold in the way. That's one of the mistakes I made that I'm trying to save you from!

Ok thanks! Not one video mentioned or unbolted this bracket...guess I'll find out, planning for sunday,to do this,my day off.I ordered hours ago, fe l pro lower gasket, kit comes with o rings , spacer gasket bars, the gaskets, black ttc sealant. As Delco upper gadke T new pope and made air gasket, and new doorman 2 pack metal elbows 40765 hp. Supposed too get it friday. So I need silicone for the elbow...and a gasket?or no?
Gonna get 2 new battery for my Delco torque adapter, some coolant, and 3/8 1/4 drive socket..rest of everything I have

Don't put a hardening sealant on any o-ring seal. Some people use grease but it isn't strictly necessary.

The doorman elbow that is going too replace the old plastic one..I'm supposed too use silicone, right? Won't need any king of seal or oring?

My friend's car has a series III 3800, which has the same elbows and one of the original plastic ones cracked. I just put the Dorman aluminum set on plain with the o-rings that they came with. The elbows come with new o-rings already in place on them. Some people say those o-rings are not of very good quality, but I thought it was worth giving them a try.

Someone else on this thread has already told you that they put silicone sealant on their elbow o-rings, and had to go back and reinstall them plain because it leaked.

No silicon sealant or any kind of sealant. but use silicon grease. Dow corning makes a great one.

That was me on the advice from guys at the Pontiac Bonneville forum. As it turns out, the O-rings don't need a sealant to seal, but they do need a lube to help them slide into the water pump and lower intake manifold so that the elbows get aligned straight; silicone grease is perfect for that.

Go to NAPA and get Sil-Glyde if you don't want to order the Dow Corning 111.

Jen I do the elbow,it's the water pump i belive..do they need to be torqued to spec,or can I just tighten snug with ratchet? And for mass airflow sensor housing too upper manifold?

The belt tensioner assembly is what holds the elbows in. Tighten those bolts by feel with a 3/8 drive ratchet. When you install the belt tensioner assembly, put the elbows in it first, then line the elbows up with the water pump and lower intake manifold. Both elbows go in at the same time. Use the bolts to draw the belt tensioner assembly in towards the engine evenly so that the elbows go in straight. Tighten each bolt a little at a time as you check the elbows to make sure they're going in OK. I like to use anti-seize on the belt tensioner bolts and alternator bolts.
