Something I've been very curious about. Last tuneup,I put as Delco copper plugs in.2nd hand Buick lesser I've fixed up. Read and discovered a while back, factory was iridium! Was looking at a lot of YouTube vids,on plugs.and double platinum strikes my interest. Read you shouldn't take a step back from factory, profound in this case. Bad thing taking a step back too iridiums?

Use the iridium. Changing spark plugs on a transverse V6 is impossible, so you want the longest-lasting plugs you can get. Iridium is a MUST! You might even consider NGK's new ruthenium which is supposed to last even longer.

The ACDelco iridium #41-101 is NGK, and they have a rebate of $3 per plug ($18 total). At that price, no reason not to use iridium.

Pair them with NGK wires (or the ACDelco GM Original Equipment wires)

Lol ok.i did those sparkplugsmysrlf when I got the car.the 3 in front relatively easy.the left rear not too bad.the middle and right rear plugs...took along time but I did get them out .evrn harder too put new ones in..tookpatience.and me kneeling on top engine.but I did it!

Think I wanna try double platinum...rockauto.wanna try autolites...not oem.

Why? o_O

Autolite is inferior to NGK, and they're made in China or Mexico (the NGK Delcos are made in the US, in WV). And worse, the Autolites actually cost *more* than the OE iridium once you count the $3 rebate

Why pay more for platinum than iridium?

Double platinum is good for 60k. Iridium is good for at least 100k

Because you can lead a horse to water.....

Always liked autolites.well the advertising. They remind me of microgard filter advertising.like fram..black orange
.yeah I know. Ngks are really good.ac Delco ..thier quality has slipped past 10 plus Years. Thier oil filter is cardboard endcaps. Another is e core. They discontinued their upf synthetic filters.and semi downgraded thier reg one.

I have several 3800 cars and a few in the past as well. Anytime I strayed away from the OEM plugs for whatever reason, it wasn't a positive change. I tried colder heat range plugs and they were good but lost fuel economy. Same thing with cooler thermostat. Lesson learned in the end? Stick with OEM iridium plugs and you won't have to touch them again till they are due. What you put in is your choice. Oh and I had motorcrafts in there for 6k before it started misfiring, didn't like those at all. I have learned not to get creative so I don't give myself extra work.

Got this itch...but ok wanna try double platinums.see how performance changes.I put in ac Delco coppers in.got about 18,000 miles on em. Track my mileage every full up. Noticed with Mobil 87 and 5 1/2 is lucas...I got 248 miles too a tank! Coulda gone 250 near empty.every full up. Tried citgo 87 and 51/2 is lucas..got 240 or so. 14 gallon tank. Never ever used double platinum or iridium..

Not sure why you put copper plugs in there knowing the most you will get is maybe 30-40k miles. You will be well served with the Autolite double platinums, I never had an issue with any Autolites. NGK is a step up, I get that - but with the age of the car you will probably never change the double plats again. Single platinum will get you 60k miles, double plats and iridium will make 100-125k miles.

This is a waste-spark system, so if you use precious metal plugs they have to be the "double" type with precious metal on both the center electrode and the ground.

Really nothing wrong with running the conventionals that are there now out to 30,000 miles then decide. Changing out plugs that aren't misfiring will not improve mpg.
