The last three or four days my car has been making a clicking sound while it is cranking. I cleaned the connections on the battery and checked the voltage and its at 12.9 v. Yesterday I removed the starter lubed the gears, they were in good shape, with high temp grease and reinstalled. Still makes that [censored] clicking sound. Only thing I can think is the solenoid is going bad. Or maybe the starter relay? Anyways the engine turns over normally and starts fine. This an ac delco starter that replaced the original 50,000 miles ago. The original starter [censored] out at 80,000 when the clutch would not disengage and the battery had to be disconnected to shut the car off.

I thought about doing this but the battery is not even a year old. I guess It could have a bad cell though.

Its most likely not the solenoid itself that went bad but solenoid contacts have worn out. You can actually replace them yourself. If you can take a starter out of the car then you can replace the contacts. Very simple job.

If it only clicks when you engage the starter, the sure narrows it down.
Pulleys and accessories, along with engine internals or fuel injectors are removed from the equation.

Is that 12.9V Off or running? At what speed and with what accessories on?

I would disengage the fuel and ignition, and listen while someone cranks the car [10 seconds at a time - let her cool].
Maybe a relay or starter - possibly a faulty flywheel/flexplate.
