My Mazda dealer said they don't sell coolant. I called and asked them what they recommended for my 94' Miata and they said just use the regular green stuff. I know Honda and Toyota have their own brands. Why not Mazda?

I have Green now. Would using another Japanese coolant for my "Japanese" car be a viable answer?

What about G-05?

Thanks!

If you decide to go with G-05, buy the Zerex version at Pep Boys. Sourcing G-05 as "Ford Premium Gold" through a Ford dealer is gonna cost ya for the privilege. Chemically they're the same, though the marker dye Zerex uses is paler.

My Mazda dealer (which is also a Lincoln/Mercury dealer) uses Dex-Cool compatible coolant in my 2001 mazda. It is Ford Specialty Orange Coolant (Ford Part Number VC-2).

1994 though, thats a tough call. Do you remember what color the origional coolant in your car was? If it was red/orange, my guess would be that it is dexcool, not G-05.

Whatever you use, if you do a complete flush, you will likely be ok. Old "green" coolant can be used in most anything as long as you do a flush, and remember that the green is good for 2 years max.

Thanks for all the info guys!!! Yes... as far as I know... Coolant was original "Green". I think I've read somewhere on this site that Zerex calls for G-05 for my year? According to their website? Somewhat weird considering it's a 94'.

But heck? G-05 looks like the way to go! If's it's good enough for Chrysler and Mercedes?

I am concerned about the effects on the "insides" from switching to G-05 over the Green. Water Pump seals etc...

I will do a complete flush and use distilled water. I understand the Marker Dyes can be very light. I don't want my mechanic to top-off with green thinking it's the old stuff. BTW, How long is G-05 good for?

The 94 1.6 is very similiar to the 1.3 which is in both of my cars. I don't see what benefit you would gain from using G-05.. unless you want to waste some money.

I'm not opposed to continued use of the old tech...But Perhaps for a few bucks more I'd get better technology and a more stable product that didn't corrode as much? I can't see not upgrading if it's not going to cost an arm and a leg.

It's like using windows 95 when you could be using windows XP. For some people that works fine for what they want to do.

Suppose you flush and go with G05, and you're concerned about a mechanic or a jippy lube "tech" accidentally pouring the wrong stuff in, you are justified in putting a sticker either on the radiator cap or on the expansion tank that says "G05 Only! - No Green Cooland Or You Will Be Shot, You Stupid Jippy Lube Tech!"

One of those labeling devices ought to get all that in there.

I've never had any corrosion in the b series engines... even in neglected systems. Upgrading a old system with 95 to xp could do more damage than it's worth, that's why xp's geared towards newer systems.

Bunch of baloney.
1. topping off a small amount of green on an 05 system doesn't make the term of use any shorter.
- 1/2 pint big deal
2. 05 probably will work better even if I use green for 15 years in my Mazda because its cheap.
3. What damage - if theres is a thread on damage from converting to O5 show me.
