My old Dodge Ram needs at least one new motor mount. It's a 2500 4x4 with 360 Magnum. The motor mounts are clearly visible, and don't look hard to get to. My question is how to support the engine? Is it OK to jack it from the oil pan, or will that destroy the oil pan?

It would be better if you placed the jack under the transmission bell housing instead. I've done it plenty of times without issues. You could place it under the oil pan if you used a large, square piece of 2 X12 on the floor jack pad. But I've only done that in a pinch.

i had a 1982 HD 3/4 ton. i put a built 360 in it. to keep from tearing the left mount. i put a longer mount bolt on one of the left ears on the block. had to run the threads longer. used a turn buckle that fell right in to a hole in the frame.

Do NOT buy cheap mounts to replace them, or you will be doing it again in 6 months.

Use a piece of wood on the jack and jack up the oil pan a little.
