If that thing was here it would be so rotten you wouldn't want to waste your time. We have them at work, we started with 20+ and we're down to 3 and those don't have long.

I went through the rust thing with my $950 1995 Explorer Sport 4WD, and I will never buy a rusty truck again. The Explorer never broke down and had a great engine and trans, but stuff on the body was just falling apart in ways I could not anticipate or correctly fix. Working on it was a nightmare because screws and bolts were either frozen, or if they did break loose they would just spin. Shock mounts broke, brake lines leaked, the radiator would move around because the lower part of the core support was just gone, filler neck rusted through, etc. The majority of the wrenching I did on it was rust related, and as such, no fun at all. I hated getting rid of that old bucket. It was great to throw around on trails and like I said never actually broke down. If it weren't for the rust, I might still have it.

The green Ranger is a night and day difference from the Explorer as far as rust. It's definitely a Southern truck, and so far wrenching on it has been a piece of cake. I took the old warped "Tuff Liner" out today, and there was no rust underneath, just a lot of dirt and mud. There was a paint pen signature from the installer of the bedliner dated July 1994. I could also see where a topper had been installed at one point, and it had an edge guard on the tailgate. The original owner probably took it straight to H&H from the dealer and got all that stuff put on. Would have been cool to see this thing 20 years ago.

No opinion about buying a truck like that, especially at that price. It's become abundantly clear though, that the Ranger has a timeless design. We all know that they are solid vehicles.

If you have one, think twice about selling it. Then don't do it.

Yep, don't know of any 4WD, V6, manual everything, good running, Rangers with new mud tires and new brakes that are less. I tend to keep my eyes open for them and I haven't seen any.

If I was appliance shopping, I wouldn't be getting any 22 year old 4WD period. I would have bought the 2002 F-150 Super Cab we had at work for the same price a month or so ago.

Yep, unlike cars trucks hold their value. If it runs and goes down the road its worth $1,500. If its 4wd $3k.

Nice truck! Rangers are very hard to find with no rust around here, and when they do have very little rust they demand high prices.

My buddy sold his 2001 Ford Ranger 4x4 with the Supercab and 4.0L SOHC V6 for $4000 in 2 days, and it had over 200k miles on it. He still wishes he had kept it, but it was starting to show its age.

Thanks! You can find rust free Rangers all day here, but at least 90% are 2WD. I see 4WDs pretty regularly, but they don't come up for sale often. Another dealer has a '98 4WD reg cab XLT, but it has like 225K miles, it's an auto with electric shift t-case, and they want like $4K for it. And that's a true IFS truck...with 4WD I'd really rather have TTB.

Rangers in general demand high prices here for what they are. Another little car lot got a '96 Super Cab 2WD Ranger in a couple weeks ago. They had the Ranger listed for about $1000-$1500 more than the similar age F-150 and C1500s they had on the lot. The Ranger was gone in less than a week. The F-150 and one of the C1500s are still there.

And down here, 22 years isn't crazy for a truck. The ones sold new down here don't have rust problems, so if the mechanicals are kept up and they don't get wrecked, they stay on the road. We do get rust buckets brought in due to the lack of state inspections, but they are usually priced accordingly.

Well, of course it needs some TLC.

Then again, when you see the price it likely goes for in a week, some wrenching and buffing investment would be a screaming deal for a Ranger fan if you have the skills/time

Eh...I'd have to get that one for about $900 or less. It has been wrecked. Not the original grille (XL/STX grille on XLT truck), and the front bumper is tweaked, so the frame horns probably would need to be pulled to make it right, and who knows what lies beneath. Hood alignment and driver's door also look off. Needs 4 tires too, and the interior is wrecked. And that's before assessing the engine, the A4LD auto, the electronic t-case, auto hubs, suspension, brakes, etc. I'm willing to pay more for a better base vehicle. Not to mention, from walking in the door with a check to walking out with the keys took 30 minutes. I don't have time to run up to TN to pick up a beat to death truck in totally unknown condition, and obviously, that truck can't be driven back on its own. If my '94 had been located in TN, I could have driven it right home. If the Copart truck were local though, yes, I'd be looking at it, but I see red flags with that one. Copart usually = red flags though. I have driven some Copart gems and it's usually an interesting experience.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think $3K is crazy for a rust free, mostly original, 4WD, straight body, never wrecked truck with desirable options that is fully drivable.

Someone's about to have their mind blown.

Regardless, good luck with your new Ranger!

At Copart it could go for $400-$500, but still, factor in time and transport, fees, and it's a $1K truck by the time it gets to AL, then needs $2K to get it to the baseline the '94 is at. I was after a fun truck, not a logistical headache.

And I did not buy the '94 at auction. Part of the price I paid was someone taking that step for me, putting tires and brakes on the truck, and putting it on a lot. I don't expect them to be Unicef in exchange for that. Middlemen have to eat too.

Relax. You don't need to justify your purchase to myself, or anyone else. The Copart listing wasn't to draw a direct comparison, or to greet your purchase with derision. Just passing it along.

If you're happy with two Rangers sitting in, I presume, an apartment complex parking lot, then by all means rock on with your bad self. Again, good luck!

Nice presumption. No, I do not live in an apartment, but I am sure many other BITOGers do, and I have lived in one myself, but it did not have room for two trucks. What does that have to do with the topic anyway?

3k is a good price I think. Trucks like that do not exist up here. But I can find al l sorts of trucks in that price range... in worse condition.

Up here that's a $5K or $6K truck due to lack of rust.

Looks like a cool truck. There's still a ton of them around here, even with the rust. They seem to run forever. Find a hood at the scrap yard and it'll look like a brand new truck.
