'92 Mazda 5 speed

I have a 1992 Mazda B2600i 4x4 truck with 190,000 miles. My 5 speed transmission is stiff shifting especially when its cold so I nurse it along. What would be the best fluid for this unit to help it shift easier. The manual calls for GL4 or GL5 The last time I serviced it I used Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90, which helped some. I was wondering if there is a better fluid out there that any of you folks have used and are real impressed with?

2 things you need to do for your MT gearbox:

Use full synthetic 75W90 GL4/GL5.

2 replace your turret fluid with something fresh.

I've got Redline MT-90 in my Mazda3. It's not bad, but I don't think it would be better in the cold than Amsoil. When did you switch to the Amsoil?

What is turret fluid?

I've been using the Amsoil for 4-5 years. I dont know what turret fluid is. I wonder how the Specialty Formulations MT 75w80 fluid would work?

My Festiva, AKA Mazda 121, was clashing rather badly when shifting at any kind of normal pace. An AutoRx application fixed that.

I agree ... but you could be more specific if you really want to be helpful.

In this case, the recommendation would be SpecForm's MTL-R if the owner's manual asks for some form of 90 weight oil.

Bror I checked the owners manual and it does not specify oil weight for the 5 speed. It gives specific weights for the differentials and engine but not the transmission. Would the 75w80 be too lite? I only use the truck for commuting no real work.

Look At your clutch slave and master cylinder.There might be a leak.Seen this to be a problem with mazdas before.The old master just won`t push the volume it did when it was new.At least try to bleed it and see what happens

snoboy, the most likely weight for your transmission is a 75W-90.

So, I'd still go with MTL-R at this point.

You could search other (brand-specific) forums such as nissanformus.com for a better recommendation for your specifica vehicle and year (as to weight).

however, I see lots of misinformation on those boards and some downright screwy recommendations from kids ... usually trying to be helpful.
