i have the famous a604 transmission transmission was rebuilt about 50,000 miles ago everything was fine up until a few days ago when it dropped into limp mode. brought it in and had a metal fatigue failure with the high gear. They replaced two parts inside and everything is fine other then a small leak from the axle seal but that is not what i am worried about. I am worried that they did not use the right fluid i know it calls for ATF 3 or mopar 7176 but i don't know what they put in. Is there any way i can tell from the color or anything. It is a very light red color or almost a light pink color. Should i be concerned?

Who are "they"? If you dealt with a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer I think it'd be safe to assume ATF+4 (the replacement for ATF+3) was used, but if you went anywhere else then the odds improve that ATF+4 might not have been used.

I've never seen ATF+4 fluid outside of the bottle, so I can't comment on its color, but I did read that it has an unpleasant odor to it. So, pull the dipstick, inhale deeply and see if that helps any.

I didn't deal with a dealer i dealt with a reputable transmission place. I couldn't tell what went in there and when i asked the guy if i am ever short what do i put in then he reads the dipstick and says 7176 so now i am worried what they put in

Any trans shop knows what to put in. They didn't grow up in a vacuum. You've already paid for the rebuild ..what more can they want from you, hassles with potential warranty work from lame fluid?? Not likely.

Go ask them. They probably used a multivehicle ATF.

You're further evidence that transmissions are the paranoia generating component in the drive train ...with good cause. Your trans didn't fail due to any problem with fluid. It just broke due to low ball/off spec parts ..a procurement/engineering flaw.

at least he read the dipstick to tell you! He probably read the dipstick to find the quarts to put in your transmission when they did the rebuild. I guess your worried because he didn't say it right away.
