91 MX6 GT, what oil do you recommend?

Hey all, ive got a 1991 Mazda MX6 GT Turbo pushing close to 350whp on the current setup. The vehicle is spec to use most oils weights available, all the way up too 20w50. Now currently it uses Mobil 1 10w30, and have never burnt a drop with 235,000KMs on it.

Now, I do drive the car hard, and notice that after prolonged abuse that the valvetrain and HLAs seem a bit noisy, almost like there clacking?

I believe this has something to do with the weight of the 10w30 at high oil temperatures. Bear in my I do live in Canada and I start the car in storage every now in then, what does everyone recommend for brand and oil weight? I always run a full synthetic, but im not looking to break the bank either. I like the thought of Amsoil 10W40, but it costs around 13bucks a Liter here.

Redline 5w30.

Or if you want to save some cash, Mobil 1 0w40 or Rotella 5w40.

Err, I doubt going thinner would help the noisy valvetrain, and I do like the 10w weight as it is a stroker motor with a large valvetrain.

I think that's normal because my passenger car does that in the summertime after a high speed highway run. Do you think that "clacking" can be injectors?

The Amsoil warehouse is located in Mississauga and it would cost you about $10 CDN / Quart!

I would buy amsoil, but the thing is that I work on cars all day long, and I hate to see the oil wear in my engine and know that the additive packages have weakend over time and are not protecting my motor to the fullest. Therefore, I usually change my oil every 3000kms regardless. So I want a good synthetic at a cheaper price for sure.

And ya im pretty sure its not my injectors, bran new and i can hear there own individual sound, but I hear the valvetrain for sure.

I did not tell you to go thinner. You are useing a 30 weight oil. 0w30, 5w30 and 10w30 viscosity is all the same at operating temp. The 0w and 5w are thinner on start up thus providing slight better start up flow.

A 5w30 or 5w40 is what I would use.

Not exactly. Look up viscosity curves.

I'd use Mobil 1 0W-40...great all-'round oil.

The full synthetic Rotella in 5-40 was mentioned, and seems perfect except for very cold winter conditions.
