I'm naming names on this rip off outfit in Grants Pass, Oregon due to this is the same AMERICAN automobile manufacture that WE, yes We the taxpayers BAILED their sorry A**'s out earlier this year. I went to Lithia Jeep, Dodge and Chrysler in Grants Pass, Oregon today to take a look at a '09 Dodge Challenger R/T just for the heck of it. On the manufacturer sticker, the "suggested retail price" said in the order of $33,000, the dealer had the cajones to mark it up an additional $9,999.00!!!! I am PI**'ed OFF!!! And we bailed these bast**d's out for crying out loud!!!!

That is a big markup for a standard Challenger. As you know they are in short supply.

Most dealers in my area(we have numerous Dodge dealers within 60 miles) have one or two including the SRT8. Cerritos Dodge has a dozen or so. Other than that...slim pickings..

There are some dealers that are decent left. I came across a Chevy dealership in Ohio that are selling 2010 Camaro's for MSRP. They specifically state that they have had other dealers offer more money for them, but they will only sell them to a true customer. With the insane markup that some dealers are GETTING for these cars, it takes alot of guts for a dealer to sell one for MSRP to a true customer to hopefully build a lasting relationship.

They can't get rid of their challengers around here. They have plenty available for well under msrp. This salesman my dad was talking to was practically begging to get him into a b5 blue classic that they had just got in, but we just got our 2000 Formula instead

Heritage Chevolet in Chester, VA is another good dealer that sells Camaros for MSRP. They have a processing fee of around 400 bucks, though. Practically all the dealers around here have that, foreign or domestic.

Do one of two things.

A. Don't buy it. Select another brand/model from another dealer.

B. If your heart is set on a Challenger then purchase it elsewhere.

Out of all the things in life to get bent out of shape about, this isn't one.

Lithia has 1 Challenger R/T shown in inventory. It is not showing a base MSRP of $33K nor $9K in markup/options????

09 Challenger R/T
MSRP Base Price $30,220.00
Options = $6,795.00
Destination Charge = $725.00
Final Price = $37,740.00

Not sure what you saw? At least online it doesn't match up. You did actually read the window sticker and see if there were any options or dealer added items right? The base MSRP is never the final total.

Also, as has been said already Chrysler has nothing to do with an individual dealer marking a vehicle up or down. That is on the dealer. The bail out comments are inaccurate.

Exactly. The dealer, not Chrysler, is being the idiot here. Someone else will have the car you want for the price you want.

Many times dealers charge "Stupid Fees" for hot cars. Ford did it when the Thunderbirds came out years back. People paid it so they could be the first driving that car in their neighborhood. All dealers try it, and stupid people pay it if they want the car bad enough. If I were you, I'd let the Challenger sit on the lot and rot!

I stopped in the Chevy dealer yesterday to see if there were any Camaro's to be seen. They had one coming in, a loaded 2LT/RS black on black, exactly what I would want except it had the automatic transmission. They wanted $4,000 over the MSRP (with options) for it. I wasn't really planning on buying one anyway, but if there was ever an impulse in me, a $4K markup killed it.

Wow, now that's some misdirected anger. The dealers will often add market adjustments to the pricing on new cars. There is a group of people who want to be one of the first owners of a new model car. They will pay for that right and the dealer is more than happy to take that money.

Telling a dealer what to charge for a car because of a loan package is like telling a cop what to do because your taxes pay his salary.

Well said in the above posts. It's supply and demand. If you're not willing to pay that much money for a certain product, then don't buy it.

Would you have felt better if the suggested retail price was $53K and they gave a rebate of $9,999?

I hate it when lousy dealerships ruin the automakers reputation because so many people in the country think the dealer is the automaker. So many people have bad experiences at a dealer and think it's GM or Ford or Honda themselves ripping them off. We surely have a lot of dumb people in this world.

Dude, different car, but same principle. They(Chevy Dealers) are even marking it up on the Camaro's, there is a high demand and low supply. The guy at Chevy said even at Auction they are paying 5k over invoice and in turn charge 2-5k markup ontop of what they paid.

It's rather stupid, i'd rather wait than be one of the "1st" on my block to get one. Though I did take the transformers edition Camaro for a test drive(no way can I afford one), but the owner let me drive one off the lot for giggles, opened her up on Route 208 in NJ, nice car. I wanted to take the Challenger for a spin but can't seem to find one in North Jersey.

Find it at a reasonable price elsewhere or don't buy it.

In the mean time, take this post, put it more politely and send it to the general manager of the dealership advising that you're going to send the same note as a letter to the editor of your local paper.

I agree that it's contemptible behavior in times like these, and it's good to let the people in your community who's doing it.
