The best thing you can do about situations like this is vote with your checkbook. A different dealer that is willing to offer a fair price is what you should be seeking...not revenge on a dealer that is acting within their rights to rape and pillage. Just keep in mind that if there weren't countless dummies driving around in grossly overpriced cars, price gouging wouldn't exist, so instead of taking pride in having the first Challenger on your street, take pride in knowing you didn't sell your soul to get yours.

Hopefully, the local newspaper doesn't have the dealer's advertising account.

Go buy a Honda or Toyota and don't look back. GM & Chrysler already raided me once. Never again. If you HAVE to have an American badge on your car. Get a nice Mustang.

Sorry, but this analogy sux. The Cop works for the city. The dealer was bailed out with Chrysler by all of us as an act to prevent the loss of their jobs and many others. So, this is what we get.

Harley Davidson did this for years. Now they are on their knees begging for customers and in tough financial straits. But some dealers still want MSRP. LOL...you have to be a certified moron to pay over MSRP for anything.

Dumb money, dealers live off it. If someone is stupid enough to pay a premium the dealer did nothing wrong. Supply and demand, and whatever the market will allow a dealer to pluck from someones pocket who wants the hottest car bad enough. We should all understand this point.

Remember it is a good salesman's job to sell a car for the most money possible, and a good consumer's job is to get the best price.

A person can always say no and walk out the door. BTW I hate dealerships, but people willing to pay stupid money, I always found them entertaining.

Yes I have always wanted to have vehicles sold directly from the manufacture with no dealerships at all......The average dealership makes more money in the back of the business then in the front doing repair work on out of warranty vehicles and doing oil changes, tires and wiper blades and batteries!!!! In fact in states that have a hard winter the repair side normally carries the business through the winter when sales slow down to a crawl!

It is bad every place. I worked for a dealership that encouraged you to lie and manipulate the costumer. Your commission was based on how close to the inflated bloated price you where able to get the person to pay! Their was even a bonus if you managed to sell a "Sales" car one that was currently on sale and drastically discounted to someone at full price. It was common for one sales man to send another one out to a car to remove the sales tags hanging on the mirror and on the windshield etc..... Often they would hide the newspaper if the sales add was in it to make sure the people did not see it!

On top of that this dealership lied to the sales staff about the invoice price and everything this way they could also cheat the sales people out of their bonus and incentive pay. If you did not know the true invoice price then you could not calculate weather or not the money they paid you was accurate or note. This place kept that information under tight control. I saw it one time and they got all paranoid I was going to tell the other sales people. I understood exactly what I was seeing they thought since I was new they could talk openly and I would not catch on!On top of that they would manipulate the sales staff to keep people at each other's throats so they did not notice what management was doing behind the scenes. Not all dealerships are like this but many are. Their is several layers to the lies and misinformation. Their are usually about 3 people on the top of the sales food chain that know the truth and one or two people in the finance department and the rest of the sales staff are deliberately kept int he dark and played against each other!

Being a very observant person and being trained in physiological warfare and manipulation I saw things I had never seen before in a retail environment before or since! It was as if Macavali(sp) was doing a practical lab in how to micro manage and manipulate customers and the sales force! In fact I do not think the Russian could have done a better job!!! The level of internal tension and the conflicting demands placed on the bonus's and commission where ingenuous but evil!

This is why it is still to this day an insult to describe someone as being like " A used car salesman" often we will paint the image of a guy in an orange plaid suite with cow boy hat and boots!!!!

If you think that is bad try paying $3000 or more for a trumpet you know cost maybe $50 to manufacture!

Good advice. The Honda or Toyota is going to be so far behind the Challenger and Camaro there won't be anything to see back there.

Simple supply and demand.

I can remember when 4X4 Navigators were released we charged a $10-$15K premium on them and couldn't keep them in stock. The sales dapartment would round up the makeready guys on a Saturday morning and head to Houston to drive a few back.

Agree with above, if you don't want pay the price, shop somewhere else. The fact they have a premium on the price would suggest someone is willing to pay.

Check out AutoTrader.com for dealers in your area that are selling the car for close to MSRP. Like others have said vote with your checkbook. A Challenger with a $10K premium sitting on the lot not selling, doesn't help pay the bills for the dealer.

The local Nissan dealer had a GT-R on the showroom floor that a customer cancelled a preorder on, they marked it up $30K. At the Honda dealer I worked at - I quit because of school marked up EVERYTHING by $2K, then down to $1K, and when the management changed, the markup and loading of accessories stopped.

What JohnBrowing said is pretty much true - but the dealer I worked at gave salespeople free access to invoices and each salesperson had a detailed Excel spreadsheet with invoice/MSRP/dealer holdback/cost to dealer.

Go to another dealer this fall once they have the Bramalea plant cranking out more. right now is a stupid time to buy a car since most dealers dont have anything on the lot and wont deal. Once the plants are up cranking them out you should be able to target an invoice deal or close to it. I bet they rebate them come this winter, they need to move metal and the new Fiat guy will do some a$$ kicking on dealers pulling that [censored]. They do have new franchise rules and I would assume they will look into price gouging. That tarnishes the brand but I guess some brands get away with it because there are more sheep willing to pay MSRP and above.
