9-12 Bears Lions Post Game

OK - I'm from Chicago and like the Bear's win, but Detroit got ROYALLY hurt with the stupendously bad call on their final touchdown [that would have won the game]. The refs called it no good on a replay.
It was a touchdown.
One of the worst calls that I have seen. I can't believe a careful review with videotape would cause them to say otherwise.

I am guessing it will be the talk of the town this week.

On the Red Zone Channel, they called in the former head of NFL officiating. While they were reviewing it on replay, he concurred with the call that it was not a TD as the player must maintain control of the ball through the play.

I agree with mechtech2 and if that is a rule it needs to be changed. Body was down, knees were down, play over. But in all honesty, if that is the best both of those teams can do, it is going to be a very long season for both of them.

The rule states: If a player goes to the ground in the act of catching a pass (with or without contact by an opponent), he must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, the pass is incomplete. If he regains control prior to the ball touching the ground, the pass is complete.

Ridiculous call. Are you saying Megatron (aka Calvin Johnson) couldn't have controlled that any better. He had it all the way to the ground and let it go after he was down to celebrate...Refs suck, plain and simple.

Seahawks may win the division. st.louis rams and Phoenix cardinals (without kurt warner) are not going to win. 49ers were the only competition and they laid the wood on them yesterday.

Lions won that game and had it removed from them due to technicality.

In the Titans game, a Titans defensive player got to the quarterback on the ground, the offensive linemen essentially tackle-blocked him, the Titans guy sacked the quarterback by reaching out to his knees to bring the QB down. Result? Illegal tackle of the QB below his knees.

I love football but there are too many rules.

Did you know that the my kids have to take the bus to/from school when it rains? ...even a light rain? They walk 1 block to the school.

Rules like these have to go. We're teaching our kids to live in a litigious manner. Takes all the fun out of life.

The player involved had a lifetime of making good touchdowns.
He did as he always did and was penalized.
The new rule requires an artificial retention of the ball afterwards.

And what about simply 'breaking the plane' for touchdowns, now?

I can see them trying to induce fairness in questionable TD calls, but a good catch in bounds is good. TD, and play over. Who cares what he does next?

I walked in just seconds before the "non-touchdown" and not a soul in the room thought it could be taken away. Everyone was shocked when it was ruled no good. I mean, who cares if the ball squirts away when he's spiking it; the play is over!

The Lions got robbed and the Bears got a cheap win.
