Hello,
I just acquired a 1988 Honda civic with about 175,000 on it. I don't have a book for it. What type of transmission fluid does it need? Also, does this use the Honda PS fluid, or can it use regular fluid?

Thanks

What kind of tranny? Stick or slushy?

Not sure about the Honda PS fluid ... best to check a Honda forum like Hondatech.com or other.

Bad advice. Hondamatics of that era specified Dexron ATF. Using highly friction modified current Honda ATF could result in excessive slippage.

yes i had this experiance, mainly on older accords. hehe ur the first that actually admitted this =)

i have a 1991 accord that had alot of slippage with honda atf...though my car called for dextron 3.

the old accords (3rd generation) called for dextron 2.

yet for the civics i think it was either oil or regular atf...i like valvaline dextron 3...with shudder protection, shifts smoother than many others out there..and relitivley cheap.
