87 Camry question about rear shocks sagging down?

Hello,
I have a 87 Camry 2.0 5 speed and the rear of the car is sagging down quite low. I have replaced the shocks they are new and working fine. I am thinking the problem here is the coil springs are sagging down low with the age of the car and perhaps this is a problem with this car please advise me with this question? I would like to know why/what is causing this and how to fix the problem. If indeed it is the coil springs then please advise me if its worth the effort and money of changing out and putting new coil springs on the car it has 170k on it. I think that it would be quite risky to change the coil springs in my car due to age, rust, rust on bolts back there, and taking apart so much of the car in the rear. Again I don't know that is why I am here asking so please advise me here as I am sure there is others on here who have had the same problem with the back of the car sagging low. Thanks for your help in advising me here as to what the problem is and what to do to fix the problem.

It is common for coil spring to sag, so if you can find cheap spring, better to change it.
I don't know how bad the rust you have, but I will be only worry of rust on the whole subframe/crossmember rather than rust on bolt.
Just use those WD-40 or other good penetrant and let it soak well before start to remove it.

I just spent 500 for new rear struts and plates for a 92 Camry with 207,000 miles. Cheaper then a replacement car and I got tired of the clunking over bumps

The grade 10.9 or whatever bolts on your suspension won't break when you go to take things apart, go for it.

I have an '87 Camry and the rear end sits a bit higher than the front.

Was the rear sagging before you replaced the struts?

Hello,
Yes the rear was sagging much more then the front and the cause was bad shocks. I had just the shocks replaced and everything was fine until 5 years later the rear end starting sagging due to the coil springs going bad I am guess here?

Worn out shocks or struts can NOT cause a car to sag.
That is totally dependent on the springs.

In theory it could, because the strut/shock does have some minor support, but if it is more than the sag from the weight of 1 rear passenger, then yeah, it couldn't be the strut/shock and must be the spring.

Shocks alter the change in ride height when braking or steering forces are applied to the car, but when sitting still, it is 100% the job of the spring to control ride height.
