Dont we go by Ron in the us for gasoline? Doesnt it say ron+ms/2 or something like that at the gas pump? It says 86 pon and 90 for ron in the manual of my yamaha fx ho non super charged ski i believe. It has a compression ratio of 11.2 so I would think it needs more than just 87

Being a modern 4-stroke computer controlled FI engine, which more than likely has knock sensors to cope with varying octane levels, I'd say you're ok with 87. Me personally, I'd seek out E0 93 if it's available to extract the most power and keep combustion charge cooler. Most marinas have that. Now if that was my old GP1200 (punched out to 1350) 2-stroke? Not a chance would I use 87. But that thing was a hot little compression monster.

I would run 93 octane it’s not gonna cost you a lot more and you’ll reap the benefits
That's what im thinking. Ive never really been a fan of their octane requirements. They've had that same low octane recommendation for like 3 decades. Where do you find 86 octane? Lol

They must have the timing backed down on the naturally aspirated version. Bet thats why they can call for 86 in a 11.2 compression ratio engine

2025 fx ho yamaha waverunner is the ski in question. It has the 1.9 liter engine

The gasoline for this PWC is regular, which means no lower than 87 unleaded in the US.

The owners' manual was confusing. It says pon and ron. Keep forgetting which is which, but it only burned like 6 maybe 7 gallons in an outing which equates to an extra 2 or 3 dollars using the 93 assuming I can find a station that doesnt charge an extra $1/gal for premium. I say use the 93, then when it gets old and loses octane it will still be in the correct range. I thought that was pretty good when I filled it up today 2.5hrs of fun and it only cost me $22.00 lol

Even if you paid twice that amount, having a recreational vehicle (PWC) is FUN. It's not supposed to be a high "mileage" gas sipper anyway so splurge on some 93. Get that 3 jug VP Racing can deal with pump thats all over Tik Tok right now and take extra fuel with you.

I think fuel guage is kind of like a lawn mower fuel guage. Shows that its low on fuel when it has plenty. Sounds like a common issue, but when I look at how many gph and the trip meter and all that it shows its only burned like 11 gallons in 4.5hrs or however many hours are on it which seems more accurate. I swear every boat I've ever had has done this. Shows low fuel when I still have a ton left.
