I helped a buddy work on his 1994 ST100 Honda and we drained the final drive lube. On the housing and in the owner's manual it says to use 80 Hypoid gear lube. Never heard of it and an internet search comes up el zilcho. I assume can use 75W90 or 80W90 GL5 gear lube.

Straight EP80 used to be recommended by OEMs as the cold weather alternative to EP90, but I think it went the way of the dodo once multigrades came about. Flying by the seat of my pants, I'd fill it with 80w90 and call it a day.

GL-5: 75W-90, 80W-90, 85W-90; All readily available and will be fine in a final drive. Just about all final drives take 90 weight these days. It's a hypoid system most likely so a hypoid gear oil (ie. GL-5) is preferable as others above me have already said.

My vfr1200 calls for the same thing in the rear drive. Been using Pro Honda 80w90 changing it every 4000 miles or so. No problems in 11000 miles. Happy riding!
