Was at local parts store (Canadian Tire and Partsource) today, and almost had a heart attack when I saw the Fram Extraguard for $8.15. This is the orange can of doom filter, not the XG (extended guard) which is a decent, well built filter. I might as well go to the dealer and use OE filter - the price is about the same.

I've said more than once, folks in the States don't realize how lucky they are to have all the reasonably priced filter choices, till they see the Canadian prices/options. Checked out the price of the popular size orange can PH7317 at Wally yesterday, it was $4.64 which to me is whacked.
But prices north of the border are incredible for sure. Aren't the orange cans sold there made in Canada. You would think you would be able to get a better price.

You can buy that filter at any Walmart for $5.00, why would you go to Partsource?

Almost all Fram orange cans I've seen on the shelves are made in Canada. It's possible some models are made south of the border now. Only ones I've seen made outside of Canada are some of the cartridge style filters.
That is crazy expensive for an Orange can. Even at $5 it's hard to bite. The Canadian Tire motomaster version, which itself is just a Fram orange can, can be had for $4-5 depending on the model.

Was actually looking for the Extended Guard, which Wal Mart doesn't carry. The Canadian Tire and Partsource are close to each other (Partsource is owned by Canadian Tire) and carry the Extended Guard. They didn't have my model in the XG, but I did see it in the Extraguard, which is when I noticed that ridiculous price. One other reason I don't want the Extraguard, is that Fram recommends changing that filter every 8000km, but the GM OLM in the vehicle is going 16000km for an OCI.
As it stands now, I'm either going with the OE (this filter is for a 2010 Chevy Equinox with the DI 6) or more likely, a Napa Gold.

That is correct, CT filters are from China, not Fram anymore. They are better than the Fram. Fram used to be made in Stratford, but I heard that plant is closed down. I don't think they are made in Canada. Fram PH8 is $5.00 at Walmart Canada, and $3.50 at Walmart USA. Not worth jumping through hoops over.
Last Frams I bought for 75 cents at a supermarket close out. (Superstore)
I you want to know how ludacris Part source prices are they want $31 for a Fram CH2965A cartrige filter made in Turkey, which is the poorest quality I have ever seen. BMW dealer was $10, and I bought four Mann filters on eBay for $20 delivered to my house.

Those white with black lettering chinese filters were short lived here. Nothing but rebadged Frams again for the Motomaster line (white with red lettering). Maybe they're using both, who knows. But I have seen less and less of the chinese made ones.
