$6k taillight (assembly) replacement Hummer EV

I never understood the appeal of the old Hummer, unless you had Swarzenegger money. My next door neighbor had 2 of 'em. Neither one fit in the garage.
I don't understand the appeal of this one either.

Of course, it's your money, so whatever floats your boat, as they say.

I sense that some owners of Hummers and Wranglers are living out some self-misguided fantasy. Wranglers may be a fun mall crawler for a weekend run with the top off- but as an everyday commuter vehicle......

BTW- here is a Wrangler I took a picture of a few weeks ago in a hotel parking lot in Fayetteville, NC. I am sure the aftermarket lights and such added great utility.... LMAO.

Driving to work in a Chevy Spark or Hummer or as that Jeep is presented, people have hobbies and take joy in the way they spend their money.
One might ask why on earth someone needs a 4 door EV that cost $100,000 when you can have a truck that has an interior like a living room.

( I would skip the lighting on the truck if it was me unless there is a use for it, like the beach at night or rural woods.)

I’m heading down to the peninsula this afternoon until past sunset … I’ll be about 12 miles back & the factory LED’s will get me out of there just fine …

One tail light assembly lists for $3045.48. Still expensive, but IMO not out of line on a car that sells for $120k+

That's about what one (Litronic) headlight assembly for my 996 cost.

I'm not so sure... In an EV the biggest cost is usually the battery. Of course I cannot speak to the new Hummer.
$3K for a taillight is simply ridiculous. One little problem on the trail or parking lot and what do oyu think your insurance is gonna say?
Heck, how many will a dealer stock? What is the lead time for such a part?

Perhaps but consider a minor rear end fender bender. Both lights get busted. If those trucks have the fancy automatic tailgate plus sensors and automatic steps that flip out then you are looking at five figures.

Wow, I can't imagine a Wrangler as a daily driver- especially with a Tahoe in the drive. Not a judge at all- just an observation. I owned a 2000 TJ. Was awesome for weekend errands. Would be a horrible daily driver IMHO. Heck, just having a conversation on a cell phone was brutal.

I'd take a Camry or corolla any day of the week over a Wrangler for a commuter vehicle.

Here is a pic of my 2000. Installed a fill traction lift and American Racing rims, and 33s. Fun toy- but would never be my commuter vehicle of choice.

This Hummer is what I would consider an exotic car.

Have you priced light assemblies for other $100k+ cars?

Which aftermarket lighting would you skip? I see no less than three aftermarket lights on the front.

The small one on the top of the hood by the windshield wipers for sure. To me it would make no sense because with the long hood in front of the light it can’t possibly shine down on the road or dirt path you see on might even get glare off the hood into your eyes.
I think the one on the roof is too long for the vehicle and I would skip that one too. However if there really is a reason in the need for it then that’s up to the owner of the vehicle.
If I was going to have anything on the roof believe it or not I would use the small one that is on the hood by the windshield wipers.

I’m kind of a utility/functional type of person and that is just me. If I’m going to have a vehicle like that I want a purpose for everything on it without making it look too gaudy and overdone.
But to each his own everybody has different taste

Thanks for clarification. I missed it stating $4100 to replace one with labor.

Go price a set of matrix beam headlights for a Audi TT. It’s not a 100K plus car far from it and the lights are 2.5k a side and that didn’t include the control units on the back of it.

Insurance companies are used to this sort of repair cost it’s nothing new.

Headlights are another manner and can be expensive. Taillights are not that complex or have to be light up in 4 different modes.
