Apparently free maintenance for 50k miles means the car doesn't need ANY maintenance for 50k miles to this tard.

Yes. He misunderstood "free maintenance" as "maintenance free".

Now I do recall a period where BMW promoted the 6 cylinder as "virtually maintenance free" for a while. The ad campaign may have had unintended consequences in residual effect.

Wow, lotta judgement going on in this thread. I have no idea the circumstances, but the car could've been passed between 5 members of a group for driving and no one thought to change it since it wasn't their car. Unless someone knows he just forgot, then try to reduce the judgement a bit.

Ironically, he topped off the oil 3 times during the 60k though :)

The castrol GTX is for an auto-RX rinse phase, btw. Not alot of readily available conventional oils that are BMW-LL approved.

I'm blown away that this engine is running well after a simple cleaning. The BMW 2.5 liter I6 truly is bulletproof.

Not being too judgmental. In Toyotas the engine light stays on after 5K indicating the car needs an OC. With that much sludge it must have tripped one of the engine sensors in that fancy BMW engine. He must have been driving the car with the engine warning light ON. There is NO excuse for this.

I don't know if I buy that... there should have been lots of sludge on the dip stick if he even used the dip stick during his 3 "top offs".

There are too many things that he didn't do or warning signs he just ignored for an engine to turn into that mess.
