Based on charge curves, pack reliability, scaleability, thermal management, degradation curves, etc. Nothing out there competes really, if all of that is considered, in the sub-100k range.

The MB's are good if you leave them stock, and PM them correctly, which is why I did consider a GLC43 AMG, for sure. Ultimately, I'd much rather an X3M Comp, which is what I'd buy if I were forced to go back to a gasser. It's basically a good gas powered comparison to the EV6 GT, albeit in different body style and with a nicer interior (in my opinion) at the expense of some performance attributes. However, it is also a "best in class" option, and appeals to me. I freely admit that the R4P was the gateway drug that got me into EV's though, and now? I just can't see going back to a gasser. They're inefficient and annoying when I drive them, now, say, as a loaner or rental or whatever. It's like "why is this stupid thing shifting? What's shifting? For why?!" lol!

The Mazda is still an EXCELLENT choice in its price range and very well engineered, as is the RAV4 Prime. I literally drive best in class vehicles. You drive...odd stuff.

I love the heck outta my EV6 GT, and this "I ran over something and won't tell you what and the battery is dead but still works fine and the dealer has doubled the cost of the battery mysteriously once insurance is involved and I live in Canada and not your country. So be scared!" post hasn't caused any insecurities, lol!

Warranty covers a manufacturer defect. If it’s not a defect then it’s damage, so as long as the high voltage battery is covered by your insurance policy then the “how it happened“ is irrelevant as you, the owner/ driver have damaged it while using the vehicle.

Had a customer with a Taycan hit Road debris and his high voltage battery was not covered as he had not taken out the “battery plus cover”

Nobody who has worked in the industry for any amount of time can deny that VW can be very expensive to repair.
The problem here is that people are trying to deny that this battery cost is actually an issue and they have no proof of that other than their own opinion. We could (and probably will) have several more news stories of similar situations and all of it will be considered "fake news". Eventually it will be "old news" and people will just eventually become accustomed to the fast that modern electric cars will be disposable. Obviously that's what the manufacturers want, because more sales means more $ in their pockets. All we can do in the mean time is try to fight it and vote with our wallets.
One big takeaway I have (and ws6 is the perfect proof of this) is that a lot of current EV owners will disbelief anything negative that they hear. By the time they realize maybe there was some truth to it, it will be too late.

Fair and good points. I would hardly claim the price of the battery is a non-issue (also not sure you meant that for me). Even a $15K replacement is ridiculous in my book. I just don't think condemning HK, the brands, over two instances is deserved.
