Is this just regional in the USA or wide spread. 5W40 has gone from cheap and readily available to hard to find and $28+ a gallon. I live in the rust belt in USA!
It's widely spread in the States. Not sure about other countries yet. The new prices came up like 2 weeks ago. It's been discussed in the thread below:

I'm not saying it's the answer to your problem, but 5w40 argos hd engine oil is around $20 a gallon at advanced auto parts. Otherwise I've seen it's expensive!

My Walmart has plenty of stock in various 40wt (Castrol, Mobil, Pennz, Valv, etc...). The price is certainly higher. I purchased a good number of 5qt jugs over the last year at $24. The standard price Mobil 1 0W40 Euro or 5W40 Euro sat at $26/28 for a while and now is $30.

Oh good ...
Yet another thread about oil costs going up and supply shortages. As if all the other threads about the same general topic aren't salient any longer? Or they just aren't "fresh" enough, that we need another one? Or, we need a specific thread for each conceivable viscosity, relative to a price point ...

If one is uncontrollably compelled to whine/complain/ramble-on about oil pricing relative to today's world supply chain, please take your conversation to the already existing threads.

LOCKED.
