5w30 or 10w30 to replace SAE30

My Honda line trimmer says to use 10W30, but I would also be happy with a SAE30 monograde or a 15W40 HDEO

What about a HD oil like Rotella T4 10-30? I'm strongly considering switching all of my summer lawn equipment to it. I live in Western SD so I never operate any summer equipment below 40 degrees.
I'd say HD oil is probably some of the best stuff you can run in a small engine, it tends to have a heavy base oil that can hold up better to the heat noted by the high HTHS viscosity HDEO 10w30 tends to have an HTHS viscosity above 3.5 whereas PCMO 30 grades tend to be more around 3.0-ish.

I've been using Amsoil ASE 10W-30/SAE 30 in my Honda powered Lawn Girl for many years.
It doesn't have any VIIs to shear down. It is formulated with premium synthetic base oils that exceed both 10W-30 multi-grade and SAE 30 straight-grade viscosity requirements. It has a -38°F pour point and qualifies for SAE 10W, making it an “all season,” multigrade lubricant with a wide operating temperature range.

Been using it for years in all my 4stroke OPE but Snowblower gets Formula 4stroke Power Sports 0W40

Pull starts are significantly easier with 5w30 / 10w30 over straight 30. I currently am using left over (new) T5 10w30 in my pull start OPE's but have used 5w30 and 0w30 (when I have had it available in my stash).
Yeah, noticed the same … found some B&S synthetic on a sale rack and use that in the walk behind … have used various 10w30 and 15w40 oils in the lawn tractor …

What oil do you run in your vehicles?

5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40, 5W-40 will all work fine in a push mower. If you already buy that for your car, just use that. otherwise, I'd grab a quart of 5W-30, 10W-30 or SAE30 (whatever is on sale or available) and call it good.

Just keep the oil topped up and change it periodically and the mower deck will rust out and the wheels will fall off before the engine dies of an oil related problem.

I have a 18 year old Chonda that has run that oil for the 12 years. Still purrs like a kitten. Very low NOOAK value. I use the 10w-30. I also use it in my 2 yo Air cooled rider.

10w30 HDEO or 15W40, I don't think ILSAC passenger car oil is really a great thing to be using in an air cooled engine.
It doesn't really matter. Modern oils are designed to stand up to DI and Turbo applications, which is way more stress than a splash lubed lawn mower engine will see.

Use 10w30 or a HDEO with confidence. I service tons of small engines a year, the main engine failure I see is from low/no oil. Keep the level full and change it every so often and you'll be golden.
