Looking for opinions on which is better, mobile 1 synthetic or redline synthetic for my application. I always chose Redline, however i just purchased a trailblazer SS with the LS2 6.0 engine and it calls for mobile 1 synthetic, I would prefer to use red line, but was wondering if you guy's think i should stick with the manual or use the red line.

Use the redline....5w20 redline will priovide better protection and is a synthetic engine oil unlike what the factory was paid to recomend.

Welcome to the board! However its Mobil not Mobile. I would use the redline regardless.

Redline is a group V synthetic....way better but wait until 3-5000 miles and initial engine wear is complete. M1 is very good though and the dealer could whine about any warranty issue since it is probably printed on the oil fill cap to use M-1

As long as the oil meets the specifications (i.e. SL or SM, etc.) the dealer nor GM, nor any manufacturer can do anything. The Magnusson-Moss Act provides protection from manufacturers specifying a specific brand unless that brand is provided to the customer for free. The penalties are very stiff for any manufacturer that loses a court case for violating the act. In many cases, a judgement will be several times the actual amount in dispute due to treble/punitive damages, legal fees (for the plaintiff) and court costs.

Stick with Mobil 1 until the warranty runs out, then switch to RL. Truth is, with either oil, your vehicle's body will rust through before the engine comes anywhere close to wearing out.

Folks are hating on M1 a lot lately, for reasons that I suppose are valid. However, I do not feel that the current formulation of M1 is in any way inferior to the previous formulation. Just because M1 may now contain Group III does NOT make it an inferior product IMHO.

If you want 30 weight, use GC 0W30. Just as good as RL, cheaper and easier to get.

Thanks guys, i really appreciate the info, i will definitely be using the red line when i change the oil, the speed shop by my house carries red line and i have always used it in my mustang and jeep, i just wanted to make sure it would be ok in the new truck and yes it says mobil 1 on the oil cap which is why i asked the experts here. Any preference on the filter i should use, it says in the manual to change at 3,000 even though it is synthetic.

Use Mobil 1 or some other OTC synthetic. Redline isn't even API approved. I don't think it's a better street oil either. I adoration I see here for oils based on their ester content is almost shocking. That doesn't make an oil superior by itself. Redline is the king of making funky UOAs. Additives are much of what makes a great street oil.

If you're going to change the oil every 3,000 miles, save your money and just use a high-quality conventional oil such as Havoline, Pennzoil, Castrol GTX, etc.

A 3,000 mile OCI with Redline in a street-driven vehicle is a huge waste of money, IMHO.

I agree with JAG. It's the same folks that say "use oil A bc it has a lot of Moly". LOL. I'd use Pennzoil Platinum or Amsoil. German Castrol would be a good OTC choice.

I'd use any of these alternatives before I'd use Mobil 1 because I don't like the way Exxon-Mobil degraded the specifications of Mobil 1 by using cheaper components while upping the price.

They all meet the GM 4718M 'Corvette' spec.

Castrol Syntec 5/10w-30
Chevron Supreme Synthetic 5/10w-30
Pennzoil Platinum 5/10w-30
Quaker State Full Synthetic 5/10w-30
Amsoil XL 5/10w-30
Havoline Synthetic 5/10w-30
Schaeffer Supreme 7000 SAE 5/10w-30
Valvoline SynPower 5/10w-30
Elf Excellium GM 5w30

Doesn't the Trailblazer have an OLM? Surely GM isn't recomending 3,000 OCIs in that vehicle. The LS2 would do very well with the German Castrol. But, like others, I would suggest a conventional oil if only using a 3,000 mile OCI.
