I got my monthly Ford truck statement in the mail yesterday.I t has a coupon in it for an oil change,rotation,inspection,etc.,for $19.99,plus all the extra [censored] they add on (about $25 total).WM has the 5 qt. jug of MC oil for $14.80,MC FL-400S filter for $3.67,and I will need an additional qt. of oil,$3.17 a qt.($23.13 total)

It's comical how many people think that a change in oil grade is going to have enormous effect on engine longevity.

We have an engine builder here who has stated time and time again that 20 grade oils are working very well in applications calling for them, with no negative effects at all. I find these discussions comical too.

I've only let one Ford dealer do all my oil changes since I bought the truck new.

Maybe SOPUS or Ashland will do us a favor and come out with a 5W-25.
i use 5w20 in my engines that require it i just changed the oil in one of my 4.6 fords and used 5w20 and a motorcraft filter and will change it in 5000 miles engine has 154,000 miles on it and runs like new i bought it with 11,550 on it and only used 5w20 its entire life..
5w30 wont hurt that engine but 5w20 is ideal.. All the seminars we attend some dyno equipped all show 5w20 to be great

We use what the original engine builder says to use we rebuild every engine to original condition and have been doing this for over 25 years with no problems related to this practice.

Let's get the rules straight. Discussion of variation from what the owner's manual says to do is not allowed. The engineering gods have spoken and all must obey. That is why this site is starting to lose is usefulness. That is what is sad.
