5W-30 vs. 10W-40 in Kawasaki Engine - Thoughts?

I respect your opinion but Florida is not as hot as Texas is.( I’ve lived there in the past.). What you’re thinking of is humidity ( and Houston has plenty of that as well). Florida hardly ever hits 100 F. Texas hits it a lot. ;)
Not talking about humidity at all. You are probably thinking about coastal Florida cooled by the ocean breezes. Trust me, inland Florida has typical highs in the upper 90's all summer long. Yes, may touch 100 occasionally but we come close most every day from July through September.

I have lived in both places. I can assure you Texas & Oklahoma are hotter (*strictly* reading the thermometer) and often sees three digit temps in summer, which means the mowers are under more stress there. However, Florida hits 90s *everyday* for months on end (especially South Florida, I grew up in Broward County), and the humidity is absolutely brutal. Not as harsh on mowers, but man it's harsh on humans! The humidity and daily rains almost always keep the temperatures out of the triple digits though. Much different from the 50+ day streaks above 100 we get. Give me the dry heat any day of the week! The humidity is a major reason why I left. Basically, Florida sees more 90's than Texas & Oklahoma see 100's and below freezing temps combined, but it's no contest regarding who sees more 100+ temps - us.

You Northern folks better not laugh at the cold records in that link though...

I have an old ExMark Lazer Z HP with the Kawasaki FH451V and have been running AMSOIL's ASE 10w-30 in it from the start. Over 600 hrs on it, yes low hours for the age. Doesn't use any oil and I change it out every 100hrs. I also use AMSOIL's EaO10 and now EaO9 oil filters on it. This is also in the heat of eastern NC where it gets in the high 90's with high humidity.

I just bought a CC ZT1 50 last Saturday. I plan to use it this Saturday. I’m planning on Mobil1 10W40 and a Wix 51394XP filter after breaking.

Why the 51394? Kawasaki engines should either come with a 49065-7007 or a 49065-0721. Both cross to a WIX 57035. Alternatives are the 51516, 51348 or possibly the 51056. I don't think the 51394 is going to work. Look at the gasket diameters...

Sorry they do have a 5W30 recommendation. This is for Kawasaki oil.View attachment 58567
I overlooked this post somehow. Curious why SAE 30 protects up to ~90°, the 10W-30 does the same, but the 5W-30 is somehow only good to ~60°. This is why I do not take oil advice from Kawasaki...

I'll continue using my 5W-30 just to spite them. I can't wait until the rest of the mower falls apart so I can make them eat crow!

5w30 is fine, but I’m an owners manual person while the machine is under warranty. M1 10w40 HM and Castrol 10w40 HM are very good oils IMO. A3/B3 too. *Just saw the above chart. 5w30 it is.

Use the OE or correct aftermarket filter for your application.

When the warranty is gone, I’d use 0w40 and the biggest ultra that’ll fit.

My FX 850 came with a 49065-7010 filter which is now 49065-0724. This is a Wix 51394 or Fram PH4967. They fit perfect.
I'm sure a Wix 51348 will also fit, it is only 1/4 inch larger in diameter at the gasket.

Not doubting you on an FX, but I was going off the information chrly919 provided. That information was "CC ZT1 50" which is a Cub Cadet ZT1 50". That only comes with one engine: the FR691V. A WIX filter was also said, so I'm using those references. If you go through Cub Cadet's website and use their own parts lookup, it only lists the Kawasaki 49065-0721 (scroll down to the tabs and click "diagrams") or the Cub Cadet 490-201-C007 (which in the part name says "Kawasaki Oil Filter 49065-7007"). Those filters only cross to the WIX 57035, but I can confirm that a 51348 and 51516* (*clearance permitting) will also fit. I have seen a few cross reference sites say that a 51056 will fit, but I can't confirm that. But absolutely none of them say a 51394. Due to the different gasket sizes, I wouldn't chance a 51394 when there are 3 (possibly 4) other options that will work with the same gasket size.

If you go to the Kawasakiengineusa website and click Parts and support then signature products. Scroll down to oil filters. You see that
49065-0724 is the larger filter for Kawasaki engines and will fit all the engines they list below. I understand what you are saying about
the 49065-0721 filter. Kawa uses 0724 on there commercial type engines and 0721 on homeowner type engines but 0724 will also fit.
49065-0724/7010 filter is a Wix 51394. I'm not trying to argue or tell you what filter to use, but just clarifying my earlier statement. On Wix
filter lookup site check 490657010 and that will cross to 51394. I don't know if 0724 is to new but they aren't listing it yet. If you check FR691V,
they show 57035 because 49065-0721 is what kawa puts on that engine. I hope this clears up what I said. 49065-7007 was replaced with
49065-0710. Just to make this point one more time,(my thinking) Kawasaki ships there residential type engines with the 0721 filter because
in some mower they could have clearance problems with the larger filter.
