I'll be picking up a new (to me) 2004 Expedition with the 5.4L V8. It has 130,000 miles, and has had a verified diet of dealer 5w-20 Motorcraft every 5k since new.

I have a 50 quart stash of Pennzoil Platinum 5w30, Synpower, and Quaker State Q Horsepower.. Can I run that in this application, or should I stick with 5w-20 as spec'd?

You can use 5W30 in summer without problems, but you may consider to change to xW20 in winter, specially it it will be used for short trips.

How about if it's parked in my heated garage during the winter? I can't see many cold starts in it's future, it would be at home with my wife most of the time...

You gotta figure cold starts at your destination too though, wheather it be work, shopping, etc...I know some parking garages are heated to an extent, but not many :P

But yea, I'd see no issues with the 5-30 or 5-20....but I'd check your owner's manual just as a cross-reference to see if that oil weight can be substituted....

If it's any consolation, Ford South America recommends 5w30 in the 5.4L 3v Expedition. This is the only region outside the U.S. where it is verifiably the same exact engine and vehicle.

Ford South America Expedition Owner's Manual (Spanish, but you can translate it if you can't read it.) * See pg. 392
