I use it in my 96 360 5.9 Dodge 1500. I think the owners manual prob recommends 10W30 but says 5W30 is ok too. They are both the same at operating temperature the 5W protects a little better at startup.

I'd use 5w30 year round. It will protect better in cold starts and have the same protection in the heat of the summer. 10w30 is practially obsolete at this point

What do you mean by protection? ILSAC oils do NOT have the same safety margin or boundry lubrication overall as a good "HD" 10w30. There is no excessive cold start wear in the Summer. Most engine wear in moderate climes has been proved in highly technical and rigorous study 3x-7x WORSENED when revving the engine to produce power (acceleration) and the wear levels off at steady state RPM.

They probably meant that the better flow from the 5 vs.the 10 at cold/cool temperatures equates to better protection.
Makes sense to me.

Yeah Yeah you destroy engines and are the less than 2-3% minority so its the oil's fault.

M-1 0w30....year-round....in the Great White North...should work perfectly. If you don't have severe driving conditions....an OCI of 7500 +/- can easily be accomplished.

Keep it simple....and don't over think.

Chrysler originally recommended 10W30 for summer use due to the propensity of convnetional 5W30 of the era to shear excessively. Although the newer Energy Conserving Oils do shear by design it much better controlled than it used to be.

PS Arco they recommended 10W30 EC not HD.

In accordance with ARCO's worries, if those are something you're considering, you may be able to get a 5w30 dual rated HDEO with something like an SL/SJ/CI-4 specification from a Co-op distributor.

Personally, I wouldn't worry much about using SN/GF-5 in that vehicle, but there certainly are other options if you wish to go a different route.
