5w-20 to 0w-20

I have a 2010 Jeep Liberty with the 3.7 V6. I have been using the recommended 5w-20 conventional oil in it but recently found a super deal on some 0w-20 full synthetic. Is there any problem with running the 0w-20 synthetic in my Jeep?

You have a hall pass being in the mild mid-wet to use any of these 0w weights you want since you have 4 full seasons while down hure in the ss, we got just 2 so it's either 30 weight al year or even the 40 ounce of malt liquor.

Synthetic 0W20 is better than conventional 5w20 in every way, especially for longer OCI and extreme temperature.

The only negative about synthetic vs conventional of any grade is the cost, since you bought some synthetic 0W20 on sale so that negative doesn't count.

What are you talking about? Able to connect sentences much? I ran xW-20 in a 2010 FX4 its whole life with zero issues--even when towing 8-9K pounds in 117°F heat so it is not only xW-30 or xW-40 that works in Texas.

OP - both 5W-20 and 0W-20 are "20s" at operating temperatures and your engine will not know the difference except the basestocks are typically better in 0W-20 oils since they are **usually** synthetics. In the recent past, Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy carried the Ford specification for engines running 5W-20 so it was interchangeable for those engines and as such I cannot see where it would be a problem in your Jeep that is specified for a 5W-20.

My Fords call for 5-20, but I have been using Mobil 1 0w20 for several years with zero problems. In fact I just bought 0-20 this afternoon for a soon OC.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to start using it at the next oil change then. I have usually avoided synthetics due to the high cost but I found this 0w-20 synthetic at a price I just couldn't pass up!

1) I understood the words, not what they have to do with oil :-p

2) Nobody is talking about "0 weight oils." 0w30 is a 30-weight just like 10w30 and 5w30 are. 0w20 is a 20-weight just like 5w20 is. Some of the 0w30 oils are thicker at 100C than some 5w30 oils are at 100C. So (it looks like, best I can tell) you're falling into the misconception that a 0 before the w in 0w20 or 0w30 means "thinner oil when its hot." It doesn't mean that. It means "thinner oil when its COLD."

The 0W-20 will work perfectly in place of 5W-20. Check out Walmart's everyday prices for synthetic oil. It's not quite the ripoff of auto parts store prices.
