Well I did the unthinkable. I just put the motor in the car, I used Mobil Drive Clean 5w30 in it first, thought it might clean it up. Compared to the festiva which has havoline 10w30 in it, the aspire was extremely noisey. Could be the HLA's acting up, but it wasn't getting any better. To me the Mobil 5w30 GF-4 is just as thin if not thinner than the Havoline 5w-20 GF-3, probably not a good comparison. Well i've only put 20 miles or so on it, but it is getting quieter. I believe that Havoline has more moly in it than mobil, maybe this is the real difference. In the festiva out of Mobil 1, Castrol GTX, Havoline, Havoline produced the less noise and was smoother under load. The 5w-20 does seem to rev quicker, and on the highway it doesn't take near the power to keep it going. I'm going to change out the festivas next week. The better half is driving it and she'll notice any difference if any. According to the manual 5w30 is recommended up to 100, 10-30 is recommended above that. I'll observe over this oci, which is 5k, the gas mileage and consumption and decide at that point if I want to continue using this grade.

The SM Mobil 1 is a heaver 30WT. Are you using Mobil 1 or mobil drive clean? But I think with you should use Havoline 10w30 for both cars. Easier to buy then 2 seperate oil brands and its a high quality oil.

Mobil Drive Clean was what I used before. I'll probably use the 5w-20 in both cars till winter, then maybe use motorcraft 5w-20 in the summer. BTW the metallic raping of the HLA's has completely went away. I'm impressed the Mobil didn't do anything in 600 miles where the Hav did in 50, impressive.
