The guy that delivers bait to our store hauls the bait tank on a 2005 chev colorado. He drives all over the state of South Dakota. Truck has the 5 cylinder with automatic trans and is equipped with a flat bed. Just turned over 496k miles. Original engine, second tranny.

I'd ask him which shaman he uses. Weren't those some of the least reliable vehicles made at the time?

+1 You typically had to put a boat load of money into the 3.5...they got better with the 3.7 but not much. As for the tranny, it was a 4L60E, which is not too bad for reliability, as long as it was made in the USA, not Mexico, which most were.

this thread is useless without pics of a flatbed/bait tank colorado with 500K. you are now on double secret probation!
I came within minutes of trading my HD F-150 in on a V-8 Colorado sport... Title in hand and the truck was cleaned out... Salesman was such a jerk I just walked out... They were acually lost at me ordering a truck... guy got on the computer and had no clue... They seemed annoyed at the process! He was the SALES manager! That was my last visit to a dealer... 3 years now...
went to casino instead...
FYI I test rode a V-8 Colorado sport... WOW! Would have bought that one if it wasn't the ugliest red ever made.

Dino likely. Most people who have those high mile haulers use it.

Update, just saw the bait guy today. Tranny was shifting a little funny and he stopped in for a bottle of tranny fluid. His Colorado will turn 500k on the odoometer today. I asked him what oil he uses. Answer: Pennzoil 10w30 (yellow bottle). He stated that he has had eight vehicles with over 500k miles. All on PYB. So much for the old Pennzoil causes sludge issue. Forgot to ask how often he changes his oil. As of my original post ten days ago, he had 496k miles. So apparently, he puts on about 2000 miles per week.

How on earth can one afford to take not one but eight vehicles past 500k... Wow!

I'm impressed, regardless of vehicle. 500k is nothing to sneeze at.

As stated, he apparently drives about 2000 miles per week. Delivers bait (minnows, worms, etc) all across the state of South Dakota. If you've ever been to South Dakota, its 30 miles to take a jog around the block! Mostly highway miles, which are much easier on the engine/transmission.

He is definitely getting his money's worth out of his vehicles.

Drove across SD. Once. That was enough.

Nice area though. Wouldn't mind another trip out there.
