modern dinos will work fine for 5000 miles. I think that if youre only keeping it for 5k, that a group III fake synthetic might be a good bet, and since mobil drive clean is such an oil, you can't beat it for $1.17 or whatever it sells for.
That said, I assume you want a real synthetic. Ive had great success with Mobil 1 10w30 in a 13k mile drain interval. However, at least the older GM truck engines didnt seem to like m1 as much, because they are a bit on the thin side. I would guess though that a Mobil 1 5w30 or 10w30 would be a great fit for the newer GM engines like your 5.3
I'm thinking that the german castrol 0w30 is a great bet, considering price and performance. Id also consider Mobil 1 0w-40 which is a thin 40 weight, and must have a killer additive package.
