A good friend of mine needed a ride 200 miles 1 way to Las Vegas,Nv for personel business. So I decided to make a day trip out of it since he was buying the fuel.

This was the first longer trip in my newused pickup. We left my house @5am. Grabbed my Girlfriend on the way, Fueled up and hit the hwy. I set the cruise @ 75mph and hung out in the slow lane since even @ 75 I was running slower than most everybody else.

Got to Vegas and dropped my friend off. His business was to take about 4 hrs. Girlfriend and I then headed to the strip.

I immediatly noticed that Vegas drivers drive much slower than us Ca folk and are more patient. Ca drivers run 20+ over the limit and most Vegas drivers were dead on the speedlimit.

In Ca people in the crosswalk are taking their lives in their hands but Vegas drivers wait for the Pedestrians to cross.

We had breakfast @ Circus Circus then spent a few minutes helping the Casino pay the light bill. So we left.

Passsed by the Pawn Stars place but the line was out the door and down the street so we headed over to the American restoration place.

I bought a T-Shirt here and got a few pics.

Did not see anybody from the show. We took the tour which consists of a guy walking us around and showing us the various rooms where they work on stuff.

"this is the room where we take things apart" "This is the room where we fix the dents". YAWN! BORRING!

So we headed to a natural rocky area called Red rock canyon.

Here is my 87 Ford over 200 miles from home.

After leaving here we got my friend and filled the tank.

My combined MPG which included the hwy, strip and the drive in the hills was 15.26MPG. I was very happy with that MPG since the truck is a 25 yr old 6500lb brick and I was not really trying to get great mpg. I'm sure it would have been much better @ 60MPH and less idling on the strip in traffic.

Total miles driven was 525.

Anyway the truck did great,AC was Ice cold and it didn't overheat running across the desert.

Nice truck! I wouldn't hesitate to hop in my 88 E-150 and drive it cross country. I'm certain it would make the trip with ease.

You CA guys are lucky. Much of the cool, older iron is mostly rotted away around here. My 2012 F150 is a nice tow rig, but I've had the hankering for a 6.9L or 7.3L IDI F250. Maybe next time I'll buy a car for drivin' and take a flight out to Apple Valley for a tow rig.

Nice truck. Driven LONG trips in my vehicles which can be a LOT older than yours. WOuldnt hesitate at all. Great truck!

I like the trip down the US93 or 95 or whatever it is, to the US6 alignment across from Barstow.

oh idling on the strip is the worst. I know you were doing some of the tourist thing but it's way better to go up a block and cut across. Another thing with a pickup is people jump in for a free ride only to find the walkers are making it to the next casino as you're still stuck at the lights LOL. Vegas in the early fall and late spring is the best. I did it once in july and those frozen margaritas just turn to lime juice in 45 seconds outside, not that it matters! Drinking in public, awesome! Immigrants handing out stripper ads, not so much!

Your next trip should be up north to Reno. the drive across to carson city is great. The silver mint museum, the railroads, the river, all neat stuff just like BONANZA, as it was where it was filmed. Most of it looks exactly the same. You drive right past the ridge where the opening credits play when you get into town.

When I go to Vegas, I set the cruise at 85-90mph and stay in the right lane most of the times, I change to left lane only when I pass slower traffic.

IF you're stuck in a brick at the time drafting is the key. Get behind a bus that is breaking the law and you'll get your 60mph MPG figures at a much much faster clip.

My luck I'll get a ticket plus the 6.9L is about maxed out @ 75. It's governed @ 3800 rpm and has no overdrive.

this truck came out of Alaska. I guess they dont salt the roads there

that's a good looking truck for its age, in general really. treat her right. that's when Detroit built real trucks!! a truck in Missouri that old doesn't look that good unless it was never used. they rust to bits around here. my buddy had an 85 f250 with a 6.9 and that truck had over 900,000 miles when it was retired. the motor didnt quit but the 4sp manual went out floor boards were soft and truck looked like [censored]. it was used in mud runs and everything . engine leaked but it ran good. once the head gasket went out but that was at over 800,000 miles

That is one NICE truck U got there. Mine's not in as good a shape with the salty roads we have up north but here she is.
1990 F150 W/ I-6 manual.

Vegas streetside is weirdly polite. I was jaywalking against the light and a local struck up a conversation on how it was a ~$87 fine. Peds and cars behave themselves mostly.

Did you happen to see the prices of the "pump toppers"? The Sinclair one is very cool...

Nice truck too!
