Norman I know how you feel. I to felt that way until what I found on tearing down the engine that idled for 11 hours running Liquid Moly Ceratec. The hard glass like coating was on the moving parts pressure/wear points.

Put some effort into getting the facts for your self and you may come away with a different view too.

Exactly. I can't help but laugh at comments from people who've never used a product yet somehow they think they have a clue.
Some people are so set in their ways they are beyond learning anything new. Their loss.

Well engineered and fitting motor oil shall keep your engine happy for million+ miles as has been proved time and time again. I don't mind openmindedness at all, but that Archoil marketing with miraculous crystals from Ural Mountaines, doesn't it make you laugh too? It is always a prophet from some exotic and foreign land that we are prone to believe..
Either Chen Shen for your body and mind or Ural Magic Crystals for your vehicle. That Polonium tea in London was also very effective, it was simply a case of wrong proportions..

As for Liqui Molly, they are solid company, the most popular in Germany , so the Ceratec may be, at least, not causing any harm. But it also could be a case of US market breakthrough, "Look, one can sell anything to Americans!"

Where is that elusive line between open minds and critical thinking? Does it exist at all?

I agree. Also, I would just keep my AAA card handy in case Mr. Murphy decides to take the ride with you.

At this point, you should know your vehicle.

And 3,000 miles is "nothing" for a 60's era car...or at least a Datsun

I say run it what it has been running on and if there is an issue, chances are the oil is not going to be the variable. Known "weak-spots" are the parts you toss into the trunk. I would refresh the other fluids before you go. Rob_Roy was on the right track.
