5+ quart jug - Is it just me....

I guess I'm old school but I still like to buy oil by the quart.
Who cares how much oil you put in. Use the dipstick. Don't just pour 5 quarts and call it a day.
The 5 quart jugs you find at Walmart have more than 5 quarts in them as well. I would bet they have the same amount in them that the "5+" jugs have.
I actually like the 5 qt jugs. I wish Amsoil had them. They only have 4 qt jugs. It seems like less plastic waste as well.
the 5 quart jug is just convenient, because they are just that, exactly 5 quarts. makes it cheaper for oil changes on engines that hold an extra quart or more... rather than buying a 4 quart jug and 2 to 3 additional quarts.
oh and it is WAY more economical when it comes to changing oil on a diesel!

If it's that much of a problem for you, then buy individual quarts. I happen to appreciate the 5+ quart jugs.

I've never measured how much is in a 5+ quart jug...I've always taken a Company's word for it....it's right on their bottle with their name. I've got better things to do rather than measuring bottles of oil for the liquid contents.
However, I do know that there is quite a bit left over in jugs, quarts and gallons after you fill a sump. Just let a Jug drain overnight via a funnel into a container....you'll see how much will drain out.

There is a major price difference between quart containers and jugs of oil....based on the cost of an ounce of oil.
It pays, when possible, to get the Jug. Most of the quarts that I've accumulated are usually sale or clearance item quarts that come out to less per ounce than the jug. The sales on quarts is usually less than the comparable, per ounce, price of oil in Jugs.

The price per quart of M1 in 5 quart jug is less than $5, while it is $6.xx for quart bottle. The saving is about 20% with 5 quart jug, what is there for hating the jug ?
The 5 quart jugs are the only way to go. I prefer to save the money and the ease of filling.
I always have a little residual oil in the last container so I use that to pre-measure. A couple of my cars take 4.5 quarts so I dump a 1/2 a quart in the other container. This allows me to pour only 1 container and have the right amount every time.

Yep! In fact, comes right out to 5 quarts!
(edit: I can only speak for Motorcraft and M1 5 quart jugs coming out to 5 quarts, the only two that I've bought since they have been selling them in 5 quart jugs.)

One quart bottles were fine back in the day. The 5+ jugs are usually cheaper/on sale, easier to carry/handle and better for the enviroment. What's not to like? If you need to pour an exact amout invest $5 a 1 quart measuring cup (or just use the one from the kitchen, your wife won't mind)
