AZ has 5 quart jugs of there brand oil, peak oil, and chevron dino.

but that's it

walmart has them as well but not in our weights

I can adapt to any measuring system. But at this point in time my Ford's use "quarts" so it's convenient to purchase in quarts. If I recall correctly my older previous Rabbits and Golf's used a sensible liter's measurement but it translated into an odd ball quart's measurement.

Ford uses litres north of the border

My Ford Mustang is a 250 Cubic Inch V-6 Motor/4.0 Liter motor. My Nissan Frontier is very underpowered, and the Cubic inches motor is the reason. 150 Cubic Inches/2.4 liter motor. 143 puny horses. I sure wish we keep the English System in the USA, it makes more sense than the metric system. I love quarts and gallons better. 1 liter equals 33.8 ounces, 1 quart and 1.8 ounces....That is amazingly stupid. Of course I had to deal with a father that was a chemist and a mother that had a Master's in Math. 6 of one thing 1/2 dozen of another...what a difference...lol

You didn't want the English before, but you want to keep their system hehe. Europe, Asia and Australia are running fine, the Automotive industry gotta these inches, cubes etc. Even when using tools, whats wrong with 10mm ? I see these 3/16 part no.s or whatever and im like what the heck ??!! Should see the fun i have converting Auto-Rx instructions from the ounces and miles.

A quart and a litre are close enough to make it universal arent they ?

Why deal with fractions when I can deal with a nice 15mm wrench, The metric system is universal, except for the US and England (and even they use different imperial system). There was even an article in the last couple of year that university grads in the US were upset that they were not taught the metric system as it limits there job possibilities. Keep it simple.

5 Liter jugs. Motul, Elf, Total, Lubromoly,

Let's just quit arguing about it and go metric. I have done a lot of work in both. I see little advantage in either system. When you need to know the weight of a certain volume of something, does it matter if you have to multiply by the SPG or pounds per gallon?

America blew it years ago and allowed the rest of the world to go metric. The sooner we get with it the better.

What I hate are the 3/16'' screws. If we weren't going to stick with #10's, why didn't we go to 5 mm's? And why did #12's and #14's make a come back? Why do we commonly find more sizes of fasteners now than 10 years ago? I think the French and the ISO screwed us.

I grew up with the English system, miles, inches, yards etc.
Then we switched up here in Canada in the 70's when I was done
school. I'm still having a hard time with km's vs miles,
meters vs yards, kg vs lbs etc. It's a pain in the a@#$.
I've gotten used to the oil bottle sizes now but our oil jugs
are all different. Some are 3.78L (4qts), 4.4L (4.5qts),
4.7L (5qts) and 5L. Even our small bottles come in .946L(1qt)
or 1 litre. So if your car takes 5 litres and the oil you want
comes in .946L or 1 U.S. quart, it's a pain. Every place I've
gone for an oil change has always overfilled my engine for this
difference in measurement. My Pontiac takes 5 U.S. quarts or
4.73 L but they always put 5 L. See what I mean.

I save a lot of money going to Wal-Mart and getting the 5-quart jug plus another quart instead of going to Autozone and getting a gallon (4-quart) jug and 2 more quarts.

5 quart jug at Wal-Mart = the same price as a gallon jug at Autozone. And my truck's 302 takes 6 quarts.

Most independent import autoparts stores sell Lubro-moly in the 5 liter jug, if they purchase parts from the supplier IMC they probably carry it. All these places carry Lubro-moly and Total because they are distributed by IMC. http://www.imcparts.net/ and worldpac.

Now quickly: How many yards is 7/8" (I don't know, need a calculator)

and how many meters is 14mm? (0,014m, just move the "comma")

And isn't is so that you use metric thinking too? Like 6,6 mi? If it is sooo easy to use fractions, why don't you use it all the time? No, imp/us is an inferior and non scalable system AND no one else uses it. Just leave and don't look back.
We also used this "farming system" in Sweden, like an aln, a thumd, a fathom, a foot and so on, but a Swedish variety of course since this is made up of every day stuff and not interconnected in any distinct way. It sucked and we left it where it belonged: in the barn yard museum.

only 1 metric that i know of, how did we get us gallons vs imperial gallons ???

The US gallon is the Queen Anne's Wine Gallon of 1707. Those clever Brits came up with the bigger Imperial gallon in the 19th century so they could have bigger pints of beer. The US stuck with the old stingy Anne's gallon to differentiate ourselves from the Brits.

There were different metric systems before SI but they weren't in conflict like the US/Brit systems. Google CGS and MKS.

Can I assume you have a problem with the metric system?

I was at AutoZone today and almost all the oil is now sold in "5+" quart jugs that are all 5.0 liter / 5.28 quarts. All Valvoline, all Mobil, all Pennzoil, all Castrol, etc...

Is this the new industry standard jug?

A US quart and a liter are within 5% in volume. They are interchangable. My Grand AM takes 4 US quarts, and I put in 4 liters. It is overfilled by 5% and it burn a liter of oil in 6,000KM and I then change it. If you look in your owners manual it gives the volumes in both US/Imperial and metric.

Oil here is sold in liters, 4 liter jugs, 4.4 liter jugs, and 5 liter jugs. US quarts are also sold on imported products, but given a label of 973 ml.

As far as I know all NA made vehicles are made with metric fasteners.

If you want to sell your products around the world, they had better be metric. You would be a a disadvantage tring to sell products made in yards, inches, and fractions when the competion and local markets are in metric...

But yanks, why do you write "5.28" quart jugs? Why use the 10 base here?
What's that in imperial? I mean in strange odd fractions of other measurements than quarts? Like "5 quarts and 2 3/16 egg cups"??

Just buy two jugs ( 4qt. 4ltr, 5 qt, whatever) and use the leftover on the next oil change. The alternative is to have 187 different bottles for all the different crankcase capacities.
