5.9 Cummins oil leaks

I seem to have several oil leaks on my 5.9 cummins. As soon a you pull up and shut the engine off I see like 8 quarter sized oil drops under the truck. My guess is it's because the engine shakes violently on shutdown, it kind of shakes off any residual oil. I don't see any loss of engine oil on the dipstick. Idk, I don't see paying to fix leaks on an old truck like this practical imo opinions?

Well, like you said "what's it worth"? Is a low mile older truck or 350k rust bucket? It will depend on it's overall condition from my perspective. Some of those leaks are just a pain to even narrow down where they're coming from but if you can find out where it is to see what it would take to repair it should be something that you'd want to look into. It may be a small leak now but pressurized diesel engine may be ol' faithful just around the corner. Do you take it far from home? On my old 95' 7.3L Ford the turbo seals were worn out & leaking badly at 275k. I'd planned on fixing it but ended up getting into another truck. I maintained it as much as I could though & I am one of those types that can get irritated about "leaks" if it goes on for years. Otherwise get some shower surround vinyl on your garage floor if it's making a mess.

If it's a 12v then it's likely the valve covers and the tappet cover gasket. That's just what I see the most common on our yard trucks. The tappet cover is a chore and usually leaks even after putting a new gasket in.

I don't know about the valve cover, but definitely the tappet cover like you said and possibly the oil pan gasket

Get under there and start inspecting. There are several opportunities for leaks. Mine was a slow seep at the turbo oil drain, and the top CCV hoses had disintegrated.

Have you staked the KDP?

If not, do that job and work cleaning/leak assessment from there.
