this car dipstick was bone dry. so I changed the oil. the filter was still on the car and wasn't damaged in anyway. there was oil in the pan but not showing on the dipstick. I'm guessing only a quart came out. I saw oil on the exhaust pipe right by the pan. when my dad fired up the car, there isn't any visible oil leak on the ground or any dripping that I could see. I let it run for 5 minutes. the engine was shaking pretty badly. the rough idle with the service engine soon light came on. When the engine is warm, the car was running fine and the light turned off on our way to autozone. at Autozone, got a code of P0302, cylinder 2 missfire. is this as simple as a fouled spark plug? This sucks, I got two problems a mysterious oil leak and a rough idling engine with a missfire. I need help doing some troubleshooting.

clean the whole engine. buy one of the black light kits. add dye and run the motor, then check with a black light. pull the plugs, do a compression test and put in new plugs.
thats about where we would start at my work. but we can do power balance, compression and injector flow tests through the scan tool.

two months ago, the oil was full when I was in town to visit. I'm thinking the oil leak is related to the missfire. this engine never used oil in between oil changes. I'm thinking it's a very slow oil leak. this started about two weeks ago, but my dad only drives 150 miles a week. the oil light never came on. this engine holds 2 7/8 quarts. I'm going to pull the plugs today and add redline Fuel injector cleaner
Replace the plugs, fill with new oil and take it out for a 100 mile "hard acceleration" freeway drive on a tank of premium fuel with the redline fuel cleaner and see if the issue is still there when you get back. It may just have "Grandpa syndrome" from being driven 5 mph for the 150 mile weekly trip to the store.
I took out the missfire plug, it looked normal. even the advance guy said it looked normal. I looked down the plug hole with a flashlight, I didn't see any water or antifreeze. I changed it out with the same plug type/brand. He was on a quart of gas, we filled with shell regular three days ago. I put chevron techron concentrate in the tank. I couldn't find redline fuel injector cleaner, oreilly auto parts or advance auto parts didn't have it. they carried redline water wetter though. My dad does drive like a grandpa. 5 miles the most the engine gets at a time with slow acceleration with lots of idling at stores to keep the heat/ac on and to "warm up" the engine at start up.
Does that engine have "thimbles" (spark plug tubes) around the spark plug area to hold back oil loss? 4cyl Dodges had them and when they leak...
