As I understand it the 4T45 has a higher torque capacity than the 4T40.
The 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Classic that my mom recently purchased has the 4T45 mated to the 2.2L Ecotec.
Apparently other N-body cars such as the 2002 Oldsmobile Alero have the 4T40 mated to the 2.2L Ecotec.
Does anyone have any idea why GM would've used the 4T45 instead of the 4T40 in the 2004 Malibu Classic Ecotec application?
I'm assuming that the usage of the "better" transmission results in greater long-term reliability.
