Can any one tell me if the pump is supposed to have a vane retaining ring on the top and bottom? The old one grenaded but I dont see any pieces of a bottom one. The vanes are all shiny on one side like they were riding on the valve body and have witness marks on the top.

I bought a "refurbished" valvebody/pump off ebay. The pump cover was on crooked so I took it off to see what was going on. There is no way I can get it back on with the bottom retaining ring.

Also this is not the transmission's first rodeo based on sll the broken solenoid connector clips. I don't not know if it was put together correctly the last time.

I can see the witness marks of both pump rings on the vanes in the 2nd photo, You have the Vanes 90° from how they orient.....Old witness marks toward the Rings!!!

The Rings sit down inside Vanes & float....Their purpose is to keep the Vanes against the Slide.

This is a 4L60 pump, But the same concept.

Thank you for the response. I am not sure I understand 90 degrees. I need about 1/8" for the cover to seat. The vanes are not square. If I rotate them the longer side will be vertical and stick up farther. Can you explain it differently?

Okay now I understand. The new was wrong. Thanks a lot man.

Yep the vanes were on the bottom. I only took the cover off since it was crooked after "referb". Seems I am at least the third hack to have their hands in here.
