4 Dollar Gas By Spring

The Bernankification of the US dollar continues... One dollar now buys only 0.001043 ounces of gold.

One gold ounce buys 9.5 barrels of oil. That's about half what it did 10 years ago, when oil was ~$20/barrel.

I'll buy that. Get ready, the economy is going to be going for a ride. Better get your 401k's in order and lock your identity. There will be a lot more thefts.

This is precisely the reason I'm getting all my CC's paid off and keeping money in the bank. Both of my CCs just voluntarily raised both my limit, and my interest rates. When I asked why they raised the interest rates, their reply was "because you're not keeping enough of a balance on them". It's like they want people to file personal bankruptcy.

In a time when many well-established families are losing their homes because of defaulting on loans, I went out and bought a house at the age of 21. I keep a careful eye on my income/spending ratio, and make sure I don't overextend myself. I don't have as much "fun" as most 21-year-olds, but I enjoy knowing that I'm not wasting my money.

I can only hope I don't end up with a house that's essentially worthless because nobody else has the money to buy it from me....

good for you rangerdood! i wish i had the same mentality at that age. i was the "other" lol.. and still paying for that.. argh....... yeah be careful with those 401k's!! do some research and spread your $$ out.

Seems pump prices are going up every days some here!

Next month brings spring break with all the young folks headed to the beaches.

We always see an increase then too!

Even with higher prices, seems traffic is as bad as always and folks continue driving around.

When there's a shortage of oil, there *needs* to be unemployment and recession. Otherwise the whole nation will go bankrupt, not just a select few. When people lose their jobs, they stop driving their SUV's. Diluting the currency only delays the inevitable, and makes it much worse than it would otherwise have been.

There's part of a generaton in their 30's that has never really "suffered" economically.

There's the oned that are small kids up to 18 or 20 that has been given most every little thing they want.

The $4 gas will pinch a lot of people way more than now and what will really hurt people is the high price of Wheat.

Save up everyone...

Thank G0D I don't have and CC debt, none in 15 years. Debt free except for a little on the mortgage.

Watch Dave Ramsey on the Fox Business Network weekday evenings for some great tips...

Good luck out there.......................

My splurge for this spring is going to be a 400cc bike. Savings in gas, and additional fun :)

As long as some other countries are paying more for gas than we do, gas will always be said to be "cheap" here. I don't care how you slice it though; $4/gallon gas is not cheap, at least not in my book.

If the price had risen slowly over the last several decades, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But, to go from under $2/gallon just a few years ago, to almost $4/gallon now, that hurts.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you won't save any money by buying a motorcycle.

Amount paid for the motorcycle + maintenance (tires etc...) + ride gear= net loss

Ask me how I know.

Oh, I agree, it's still painful to watch it more than double in the past 5 years.

However, take control of what you can control and leave the whining for the babies.

Gas is currently US$4.09 per US gallon here. It's not that bad. The Honda Civic and Mazda3 are the best selling cars here. To me, it doesn't seem like hardship to drive cars that small.

I drive a GMC truck. It gets 15-18 MPG. I have a truck because I tow a boat a lot, haul wood for my fireplace a lot, help friends & family haul, move, etc. I volunteer at Church 2-3 days a week, that is 25 miles away.

I try to group my trips together.

At $4 a gallon, it takes a toll on my wallet.
